is it? in my native (cascadian) dialect it's just the normal phonation mode and you're not really consciously aware of it, but I could see creaky voice going weird in CA

Holy moly I love my new voice teacher. She can hear exactly what I'm doing wrong in my throat and gave me concrete ideas for how to retrain how I make sound. I'm so excited!
I want to go practice more but I just exercised my phonation muscles in a new way for an hour and need to rest for a bit 😂

Straw phonation is great for re-finding the ease in the voice. Sometimes we as humans make things more difficult than they have to be. And most of the time, the best singing is the least effortful - that doesn't mean it's the easiest, though! It means a careful, learned approach to low effort.

Beyond VOT – phonation as a correlate of the laryngeal contrast in Polish
This article presents an acoustic experiment describing the effects of word-initial stop consonantvoicing on the realization of the following vowel in Polish. We provide data from 30 speakersand include a wide range of acoustic measures of voice quality, fundamental frequency, and thefirst formant of the vowel. Trajectories estimated with Generalized Additive Mixed Models andthe results of a Principal Components Analysis reveal that word-initial voiceless stops in Polishinduce slightly breathier modal phonation than voiced stops, particularly over the early portionof vowel duration. We also observe higher f0 and F1 frequencies at vowel onset after voicelessstops. Taken together, our results are suggestive of an active phonetic effect of voicelessnesson the acoustics of the following vowel. Implications of these results for current models oflaryngeal phonology are discussed.
