I know it's a bit geeky, even for me, but I love the herring bone pattern on the Phorpres bricks uses to build the 1930s Art Deco style Kelvin Court on Great Western Road in Glasgow.

Made by the London Brick Company, they get their name from the fact they were pressed twice in each direction (double the normal number of presses) during their manufacture, making them denser than most bricks.

Likely a local variant as it appears both Flettons and Phorpres both come from Peterborough apparently. There's even a Phorpres House. I suspect the Phorpres are the textured ones. Likely when LBC bought out all the smaller brick firms!

Interesting. It was an architect working on restoring the building who said they were Phorpres bricks. However, now you point this out, it occur to be she could have been taking about bricks used to create the actual walls of the building and not the ones used to line the outside. 👍🙂
