4 years since I woke up, knowing something wasn’t quite right. For once I listened to my body and went to emergency thinking I had COVID, finding out that I was having a heart attack. 8 days in the hospital during the lockdown. I am eternally grateful for PHRC medical staff for getting me through.

Why Trauma Relief is Urgent In Palestine, trauma is inter-generational, passing from one generation to the next. Trauma shapes families, collective identity and the way children grow into adults. Without intervention, the cycle does not end. Under blockade and genocide, children grow up with restrictions on movement, limited safety, disrupted education and chronic insecurity. Colonial violence targets not only the land, but childhood - it replaces development with trauma, memory with pain and generational progress with vulnerability. Childhood Under Israel’s Blockade Trauma is not a single event; it is continuous exposure to violence, blockade, shortages and bombardment. Trauma shapes how children think, feel and develop. It shatters their sense of safety, their dreams and their relationships. In Gaza, trauma is woven into the environment children grow up in through chronic displacement, loss and fear. This is not incidental: it is the result of a colonial system designed to de-stabilize childhood and undermine the future of an entire nation. What the PHRC does The PHRC is dedicated to supporting children amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza. It provides trauma relief, mental health support and safe spaces for children in Gaza and Cairo. Through structured, long-term, therapeutic activities, children express themselves, process trauma and regain a sense of safety and stability. The PHRC takes an open-ended and choice-driven approach within its therapeutic activities, creating a safe and supportive environment where children can explore and release emotions while gradually rebuilding their confidence, critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-expression.

The Sea and Children The sea is the only wide-open horizon left in Gaza. Yet, despite growing up beside it, most children have never experienced it as a place of freedom or play. Decades of Israel’s structured violence have made the sea a site of danger, with fishing boats and children near the water frequently coming under threat. As a result, the sea has been tied with trauma, fear, restriction, and environmental degradation. One of the key goals of the PHRC is to help children reconnect with the sea, restoring a sense of safety, belonging, and freedom through guided and therapeutic engagement. Different Actions, Shared Struggle The Freedom Flotilla physically challenge the naval blockade. The PHRC works with children to address the blockade’s psychological and social consequences. These are not separate efforts. They are connected forms of resistance responding to the same colonial system of control and erasure. Towards liberation Breaking the Israeli blockade takes many forms. If the lawsuit is successful, the PHRC would no longer be able to investigate complaints about discrimination involving sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

Oh, & if theres a trans student that wants to play sports, it’ll make that illegal.
