#phylogentic
A lovely blog to read in the morning with a cup of tea. Very nice. I think Gabriel Ugeuoto's reconstruction is perhaps my favourite, aswell as it stands up to date with the recent phylogentic paper, being so, well, koala-like!

Historical linguist working on a small language family: so this is clearly a dialect continuum
Me: ☺️
HL: here's the evidence for it being a dialect continuum
Me: ☺️☺️☺️
HL: I generated a Bayesian phylogentic tree and use the subgrouping of the consensus tree as the sole basis for reconstruction

the "clint's reptiles" youtube channel taught me so much about the ridiculousness of phylogentic trees vs our casual understanding of animal groups

I'm overdue to make an update of my simplified tree for arthropoda:

I"m teaching myself phylogentic trees. Is a phylogenetic tree of all D&D 5E monsters anything?

And by that I mean, is it anything other than a silly way to train my coding and analysis, or can it say something interesting about games and/or cultural evolution?

Mount Sinai, was also a good place to keep in the view. Phylogentic mapping, cross vector protection, zoonotic precautions etc. Thank you all for your service!

That is fun. Here's the white pizza with spinach cream sauce and artichoke hearts I made today.

but coolest is 3) at the phylogentic level, energy cost per unit biomass *declines* with increasing adult size of species even as it increases within any individual organism's development...

so they're essentially camouflaged is what I am saying. vampyroteuthis infernalis is red because of this. also it isn't even a squid. it's a phylogentic relict. bitch is just a dead-end cephalopod

When I was doing bioinformatics work -- as mere University staff -- I worked with a Ph.D. student who was a creationist who had to do elaborate mental gymnastics to explain why he worked with phylogentic trees, etc.

🤦‍♂️ I think all of mine are fresh water

I also built something that might be interesting to you, or horrifying. It's kind of a simplified dynamic phylogenetic tree thats just compiled wikipedia charts / research posters. Here's chlorophyta:

Please accept this Yggdrasil made with my fave trees: #Phylogentic, #SharpSafety containers & #Ballet pointe shoes.

Of course can’t be a #MerryCrocmus without paying respects to the descendants of prehistoric leviathans - apologies no salties in this one.

Be well, love from the #Cats & I 😻

We asked a simple question:

How long does that transition take?

To answer it, we combined phylogenetic data, species distributions and modify and apply DAMOCLES, a model of community assembly, across passerine bird families.

Note on the ethics that some might raise based on shallow argumentation: holding ground when it comes to reverence, boundaries & natural-historical, phylogentic, paleontological interpersonal statics is not intolerance.

Why would it "show up" in the "phylogentic history"? A tick collected from elsewhere, it and its descendents nurtured at the Plum Island lab, a bird picking up said tick - all of this sails free of whatever "phylogenetic" markers you are talking about. These? pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

Then when one wants to bring back the time dimension, it is not easy. Phylogentic analyses are one way to go about it but i know your own criticism of those. I generally struggle with wanting to uncover main drivers but not be very deterministic at the same time.
