I'm live, lab rats! I'm ranking every animal phylum (by purely subjective coolness)!

I love these little guys! This is a creeping larva of an Entoprocta (phylum). The movement is very satisfying to watch.

5-phylum stew update!
THEY’RE EATING THE BRACHIOPODS???
A colleague shared some photos from Ang Sila Fish Market in Thailand, where they found lots of Lingula!

Although they look like clams, Lingula are actually brachiopods, an ancient animal lineage with an evolutionary history distinct from molluscs.

I still curse the middle school substitute teacher who taught us "Keep Putting Clothes On Friendly Girl Scouts" mnemonic for Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species. I'll never forget it no matter how hard I try.

Happy #WorldJellyfishDay to the real ones out there 🪼✊ While similar in appearance, comb jellies (a.k.a. #ctenophores) are not true jellyfish as they belong to an entirely separate Phylum. Instead of stinging cells, comb jellies have sticky cells called colloblasts, which are unique to Ctenophora. 🦑

Hey, lab rats! Today, at 5:00 PM CDT, I'm making a tier list of every animal phylum (based on purely subjective coolness)!

Be there or be a miscellaneous worm!

Did you know that morels, truffles and cordyceps are taxonomically not mushrooms? They're ascocarps, produced by fungi in the phylum Ascomycota. Mushroom refers to basidiocarps, the fruiting bodies of fungi in the phylum Basidiomycota, which have spore-producing organs in their gills called basidia.

Bad pain day. Didn’t sleep well. I think this is a fibro flare. Took meds and going back to bed when they kick in. Please leave pics of baby animals, any phylum. (Baby mollusks even.) or thunderstorms. Or auroras.

The other day when I read phylum my brain went to phallus for some reason. I am clearly not scientifically inclined 😅

Ah that makes sense. I’d be curious to see if them being in a different phylum made them ok in terms of allergies but it’s not worth risking anaphylaxis.

Well now I have a new bucket list food.
