I’m in this video in a couple spots! Clint caught me dropping off some Macs and a tape drive enclosure on the free pile, and later he stops by my table where my 486 with PicoIDE and PicoGUS is playing the intro to Return to Zork VERY LOUDLY
New LGR travel vlog!

The 2026 Vintage Computer Festival Midwest experience as it was for my brother Luke and I during that weekend in September. I drove directly to the show this time, so no Chicago city stuff unfortunately. But I ended up seeing a lot more of the show itself!

Now have to wait again for shipping haha. Patience!

One of my favorite moments from #vcfmw this year was when @thegirlg33k.com let me test picoide out on her PC-9821 and do some IDE bus captures. After some shenanigans with drive geometry it booted right up off the picoide! And CD works too! Thanks again for letting me crash your table 😅

Hey folks! #VCFMW #VCFMW2026 is in a week and a half! I'll be at table B206 showing off PicoIDE and PicoGUS on various systems and just hanging out. See ya there! And boy that is a lot of tables!

to be more specific, there's slop in the firmware for the front panel display. it's a shared project between PicoIDE and BlueSCSI, and from what i can tell so far, it's coming from the BlueSCSI dev, not the PicoIDE dev. but this lax attitude has me worried. i'll look more into it later

decided i'd audit some firmware source code of a hardware project i ordered months back, and uh, there's em dashes in here. anyone interested in working together to write ai-free firmware for picoide? i'm so fucking tired of everything i buy being shit in one way or another

Got the PicoIDE and BlueSCSI installed into the SGI VW 320 to demo at VCF Midwest in a couple weeks! I love the auto opening door on this thing.

Please. Oh *PLEASE*.

This would make the PicoIDE ridiculously good in those weird bookshelf stereo hybrid PCs that were around for a bit in the mid 2000s.

This is making me want to add a feature to PicoIDE where it treats a folder of mp3s or flacs as a CD audio disc
August 25, 2026 at 2:17 AM
Officially the dumbest/most fun thing that I've tested PicoIDE on: a controller kit that turns a CD-ROM drive into a standalone CD player

VCF Midwest is a bit over 2 weeks away so I’m getting PicoIDE demo rigs set up for my table. One will be an SGI Visual Workstation 320 with both a BlueSCSI Ultra Wide and a PicoIDE in way-too-cool black front panel enclosures. These are 3d printed because I’ve only gotten molded samples in beige

That would be amazing, I would appreciate that so much 🙏 I can get it sent out tomorrow since my work is literally directly next to the post office.

I love your work. I have a PicoGUS here as well as PicoIDE on order, that will be an absolute game changer for the whole retro community.

I know this does nothing to help you right now in your time of need but a PicoIDE with the analyzer firmware would be able to capture exactly what’s going wrong here. If you’re desperate you can send me the board and sd adapter and I could see whats up.

Getting together a PicoIDE demo setup for VCF Midwest and for fun I think I'll use my SGI Visual Workstation 320. Quake, Quake II, and Half-Life run great! Anyone know any other fun OpenGL games from the late 90s? The SGI graphics on this machine can't do Direct3D, which is a fun limitation.

Me too, I really want to play Pandemonium, Rayman and Glover on mine, whenever I get my PicoIDE!
August 11, 2026 at 9:29 PM
With the PicoIDE boxed back up, I decided eh, I’ve already ran the IDE cabling for it, why not just stick an IDE optical in here since I was handed a brand new one at ewaste of all places?

Doesn’t match the FDD but I think it’ll be okay.

Lastly, thanks to some awesome people. @polpo.org for loaning me a PicoIDE to show off to everyone (and now I’m more hype for them, too, having used one), and @museumjoe.bsky.social for hooking up my friend’s table with BlueSCSI stuff to show off for his table.

I have a throne but like, I only filled it with useless stuff. I decided to put a gotek floppy emulator cause it'd be useful on an old pc I think. I think I want to do a fundraising stream this or next month for September birthday Picoide throne.com/dreamharrier...
