Petunia's Christmas, by #RogerDuvoisin, 1952, Girl-goose hero makes crafts to raise $ to spare her sweetheart's life (He is destined for market.) We love Duvoisin's dashed off pen & ink line and the farm animal rescue sanctuary message. #picturebookadventcalendar #illustration #kidlit #kidlitart
"You will escape no more," said the hunter, as he led Charles (the gander) away. "A twenty pound goose at 75 cents a pound, that's more than I can afford to lose." from Petunia's Christmas "Petunia (the goose) made more wreaths: she made paper angels; she made stars; paper Christmas trees, and other Christmas things." -from Petunia's Christmas "Petunia and Charles (the two geese) were married on Christmas Day. The barnyard had never seen so much dancing singing and feasting. It was a very, very, merry Christmas." - Petunia's Christmas

Mr.Willowby's Christmas Tree, Robert Barry, 1963 Can you just about smell the balsam fir trees in these illustrations? I love the minty greens of the palette, the ink drawings. #kidlitillustration #picturebookadvent #picturebookadventcalendar #kidlitart #kidlit #winterreading #christmaspicturebooks
A giant Christmas tree is a bit too big for Mr. Willowby's grand hallway: the top is bent. A baby bear brings the cast-off tip of Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree home to his Mother as a present. A family of Mice dance around the tiny tip of Mr. Willowby's Christmas tree that they salvaged while he sleeps in a big wing-backed chair.
