Good morning all here is your classic of the day. This is a 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk. The pillarless 2 door coupe was designed by Raymond Lowey. Powered by a supercharged 289 V8 this is classic 50’s.

Geely showcased its vision for autonomous mobility with a stunning robotaxi concept featuring pillarless coach doors, a full-length glass roof, and a lounge interior. Geely also unveiled China’s first native robotaxi prototype, a purpose-built driverless model developed as a Waymo-like platform.

Nissan's fifth-generation Skyline is shown in three bodystyles in this global brochure, which simply used the names Datsun 180K and 240KGT. In addition to the sedan and pillarless hardtop, a wagon version was offered, with curiously thick rear pillars. #weirdcarbs

The pillarless coupé version of the rock-solid Mercedes-Benz W123 (strictly speaking, the C123) had an elegant, understated profile, enhanced by alloy wheels in this 1982 brochure. Four-cylinder 230CE and six-cylinder 280CE models were available. #carbluesky 🧵

This little Datsun 3 door was my pick from the concourse.

Absolute gem.

I now love Nissan Prairies and their pillarless doors.

Pillarless hardtops, side-impact be damned.

Very much a niche model in the UK, the 1979 Datsun Skyline 240K came only in a pillarless coupé version, having been offered earlier in the decade as a saloon, in a previous generation. Ostensibly sporting, in reality luxury was its key appeal. #weirdcarbs

The Sunbeam Rapier's pillarless design was a decade old by the time its final Series V model ushered in a power boost in 1965 thanks to Rootes' new 1725cc engine. Two swordsmen fighting a duel made an unusual cover picture for the brochure. #carbluesky

The S110R followed on from an earlier, less well-known attempt at a sports model, based on the '60s 1000MB range. The pillarless MBX is shown in a Swedish leaflet, but was made in relatively small numbers (some also with a slightly larger 1100cc engine)

This is why my all-cars-must-have-a-pillarless-canopy-like-the-Saab-aeroX-concept legislation MUST pass

Chrysler UK was very proud of its 110bhp Sunbeam Rapier H120, featured in this 1972 brochure, which sat atop the company's three-car sporting fastback range. Using the floorpan of the Hillman Hunter estate, its pillarless styling was often compared to the early Plymouth Barracuda. #weirdcarbs 🧵

A pillarless 2-door coupé version of the Continental had been introduced in 1966, and featured a new, more formal roofline for 1968. Redesigned instruments and a new safety steering wheel are shown, plus the 'rich look of walnut-tone appliqué'.

The most sophisticated members of the Aronde family were the Facel-bodied Plein Ciel coupé and Océane cabriolet. There was also a 2-door pillarless hardtop version of the P60, the Monaco Spéciale. All these models featured the 1290cc 'Rush Super' engine, developing 70bhp.

Nissan UK rather boldly claimed the Prairie was 'the world's first true multi-purpose car', also highlighting the pillarless design, which would prove rather controversial in terms of crash safety. It was one feature not replicated on the second-generation Prairie.

Karmann built the 6 series models when it was launched, before assembly was taken in-house by BMW the following year. Unlike its pillarless E9 coupé predecessor, the model featured a central pillar with built-in roll bar as part of a push to enhance the car's safety.

Very much a niche model in the UK, the 1979 Datsun Skyline 240K was only offered in a single pillarless coupé version. Ostensibly sporting, in reality reliable luxury was its key appeal, but the car had an uphill battle to be taken seriously by executive car buyers. #weirdcarbs

This turned out pretty cool. Saw an old car ad compilation on YT and it had what was exactly my Galaxie down to year, color and 4 door pillarless hardtop. So cool
