This is from very early in the book, when I'm introducing my readers to the actual building of the Good Thyme Inn. It's got mysteries galore in its walls... literally. Plus a lot of steampunk-esque clockwork mechanisms
A complex system of ropes, pulleys, and gears ran throughout the two buildings that comprised the Good Thyme Inn—the Thyme Building and the Parsley Apartments. Some machinery crossed the bridge while some went underground, installed when the pipelayers gifted the inn with hot and cold running water. Most of the chains were connected to bells in areas where employees worked so the innmaster could summon them no matter where they were. The pulls were chains and tassels, most of them located beside the innmaster’s desk. But the dinner bell—the sweetest chime—was rang from the kitchen and sang into every guest room. A vase for a vine with glowing flowers crawls up the banister.

Tbf there have been some big down turns in oil and gas. 2016-18 was really brutal for the industry even if its not reflected in share price. CAPEX for new vessels and pipelayers seized up which killed off a lot of suppliers.

A “friend “ on fb reposted an obvious fake meme saying Biden told pipelayers to COPE. 2 seconds on google I found the quote in which Biden had told miners to CODE. Meaning he said your smart enuf, strong enuf, disciplined enuf to do mining you could easily master computer programming.
