Just learned that Jordan Tannahill, author of two of the best books I read over the summer, will be at White Whale Books in Pittsburgh on Wednesday! (And yes, I started following him a while back because I read about the medieval monk movie he’s making with Kit Connor lol.)

I think the online phenomena of liminal spaces was calming for me because I largely aim to take photos where there are no people. I find the most #peaceful images to often be those where everyday spaces are on display w/no humans in them. #BlueSkyArtShow Toms Diner Dormont / Pittsburgh circa 2015

I don't think this one is liminal, but it definitely felt weirdly off-putting.

"As it sheds its industrial past and embraces its tech-focused future, Pittsburgh today represents a “liminal space.” Climate migration, four-stroke obsoletion and other coming changes could bring new changes to the city’s built environment."
Pittsburgh's future should be designed on trust, say local architects
As Pittsburgh embraces its post-industrial future, design plans should foster "connections between people, place and purpose."

I love this quote from Anastasia James, Director of Galleries & Public Art for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, about experimental film:

“There is something inherently alive in experimental film—something that escapes the logic of order and invites us into a liminal realm."

Somerset feels very liminal to me because I am literally only ever there when driving to or from Pittsburgh on the turnpike

most American cities above a certain size--DC, San Francisco, Boston, Pittsburgh, Philly--fit into that "well, kind of" liminal space. Famously not L.A., though, and that's our second-biggest city!
