The disk appears intact.

Ye olde PKUNZIP utility used to use a variety of words depending on the algorithm used: "unshrinking", "exploding", "inflating" are the ones I remember.

The real mystery is why these 5.25” floppies are in the box. I remember playing it off a 3.5” disc, which is also what the packaging claims to contain. They might be backups, but it seems weird to copy one 3.5” floppy onto two discs (which each held less).
This is very boring, but fascinating to me.

In the MS-DOS era, we used a program called PKUNZIP (short for "psychokinetic unzip"

Did I ever tell you I learned to do handpainted specular highlighting on textures from pulling apart Quake 3 pak files with pkunzip?

Cheers for the free lessons ;)

I'm reminded of (yet another) wild 90s Rutger Hauer movie, Crossworlds

a sorcerer played by Stuart Wilson would just straight up open the universe's DOS prompt and run PKUNZIP on a guy

imagine paying $19.95 to individuals named "Buttchin" and "Yogafire"

...y'know, maybe it's worth admiring that they believed this was worth money to someone. 🤷‍♂️

If you zoom in on the computer in this screenshot, you can see that the program is like 7 lines of actual logic. I get that it's an unfamiliar system, but I searched "ms-dos 6.22 zip" and found a thread explaining how to use the pkunzip program in 30 seconds. "Hours of work" what a joke 💀💀💀
August 25, 2024 at 1:02 AM
tinha o PKZIP também (o comando pra descompactar era pkunzip)
August 25, 2026 at 7:03 PM
just utilize pkunzip first
OK this is incredibly cool. A gamer has created floppy disks of his Steam collection and they act as executables to launch that game.
