A meteorite found in the Sahara desert is a 4.1 billion-year-old sample of Mars' crust, report Liu et al. in @science.org.

Teghaza 001 is geochemically distinct from other Martian meteorites and records ancient reactions with liquid water.

Thanks to #JWST, astronomers have detected infrared emission from methane on W1935, a brown dwarf located 47 ly away which is cold and lacks a host star.

This unexpected result suggests atmospheric heating by auroral processes.

Oops, should I have tagged this send-your-name-to-Titan post #PlanetSci rather than #PlanSci?
Just announced: "Journey to Titan"

Submit your name, and NASA will engrave it, in tiny print, on a chip—then send it to Titan with the #Dragonfly whirlybird!

Hat tip to @planetdr.bsky.social for letting us know.

@rubinobservatory.org has found its first dwarf planet candidate: 2026 ED138.

It lies beyond Pluto, roughly 46 astronomical units out, and ranks among the biggest and brightest objects found in that part of the Solar System.

What do you think?

So, Chiron.

Charles Kowal first noticed 2060 Chiron on 1 November 1977. At first everyone treated it as a plain asteroid.

Then in 1989 it suddenly developed a coma and started behaving like a comet.

Now it officially counts as both: minor planet and comet 95P/Chiron.

Perseverance rover has broken the off-world driving record.
On 11 Oct. 2026, it reached 45.22 km on Mars, surpassing Opportunity’s 45.16 km.

It hit the mark in 5½ years, compared with nearly 15 for its predecessor, on the 2,006th sol of the mission.

Upcoming missions to Venus position the search for volcanic activity as a key goal, but could we actually see volcanic eruptions if they occur?
#TeamVenus #PlanetSci 🧪 🔭
How long could volcanic plumes persist in the Venus atmosphere?
Detecting active volcanoes on Venus is a long-standing goal in planetary research. Venus is covered in sulfuric acid clouds and lava plains which probably originate from volcanic activity, but how many eruptions the planet experiences is unknown. Observing eruptions could help us discover the interior composition of the planet, determine its level of geologic activity,...
