Today at the research help desk: there is no ebook version, L. Ron Hubbard, tracking down full text, identifying a plant pathogen and a new vocab word for me (hemiparasitic), pencils, and printing.

Trichoderma reduces the relative abundance of pathogen-associated fungi while maintaining fungal community stability in Rhododendron soils
Beneficial Trichoderma fungi are widely used to promote plant health, but their effects on the broader soil fungal community remain less understood. Using

Like animals, plants have an immune system, which relies on specific immune receptors that are keyed to pathogen proteins. The plant senses the pathogen and activates a response. However, pathogens have evolved to produce proteins called effectors that disarm the plant immune system.

on #mLife, scientists found that when the black rot pathogen invades plants, the protein DrdR acts as a "molecular accelerator"—boosting pilus motor power to drive bacteria toward leaf hydathodes.

Ideally, at this point they will see that the genetic changes to the plant receptor have disrupted its interaction with the invading pathogen effector, allowing the plant to defend itself.

Once the desired genetic changes are identified, the company takes them to the wet lab to test in a model organism, a relative of tobacco called Nicotiana bentamiana. There, they recreate the interactions between pathogen effector and host plant receptor to see if their changes work.

Ha. Scientists turned plant immunity into a booby trap. Autoactive receptors sleep behind a peptide until the virus's own protease snips the wire. Tobacco and soy laughed at potyviruses. Pathogen suicides itself. day277.020
