We had a room plastered today and I cannot stress enough how much plasterers are artists. They use a little metal plank to put pasty, liquid, wobbly stuff on a very bumpy wall, and it turns out absolutely flat, smooth and perfect. Respect, plasterers.

My dad is an immigrant, and we’re Black. The audacity is disturbing.

i will also say that it was great to work on college projects with former professional drafters, plasterers, carpenters etc. i was studying urban planning, and folks with a trades background were SO good at creating and executing on concepts. i learned a ton from them!

If you think that receipts from C19 Boston blacksmiths, plasterers, painters, and glazers were dull, think again! Here they are putting prisoners in chains, building whipping posts, and repairing holes the inmates cut in walls attempting to escape. These bills are the only record of those episodes 🗃️

That's the galling thing. The government still want to build 1.5m homes in this parliament, but have trained no additional brickies, sparks, plumbers, surveyors, plasterers or solar/heat pump technicians.

Yep, chefs, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, tilers, painters, roofers, plasterers etc all do 4 year paid apprenticeships. Whereas nurses, teachers etc do unpaid work placement/student teacher years. Although yes teaching is a female lead career men are encouraged to get into it.

The surviving interior decorative plaster in the ruin of Sutton Scarsdale Hall, in Derbyshire, is fantastic - created by Italian master plasterers, Arturi and Vassali, in the early 18th century, it has managed to cling on despite the odds 😍
