Some great looking talks at SNUFA tomorrow, including @huihongli.bsky.social presenting our work on homeostatic plasticity and irregular spiking in trained spiking networks ⚡️
This year's SNUFA spiking neural network conference will be happening this Wednesday and Thursday. Still available to register for free!

incredibly plasticity with inflection possible with "OK"

dismissal
affirmation(ass beating variant)
i think no matter your language "OK" is a kind of a hole in one utterance. it's the lunchmeat of sentences, not anything flashy but it fills the air and can be used in so many different expressions of emotion.
also watching videos on these sorts of things and getting a general sense of what they're talking about with captions but now and again it's punctuated with an occasional "niiiice" and "ok..."

There’s also some in vivo work suggesting behavioural time scale plasticity rules - basically like the classical stdp but operating over longer timescales and closer to symmetric (e.g. www.nature.com/articles/s41...)

Madar et al. report that behavioral timescale synaptic plasticity (BTSP), not spike-timing-dependent plasticity, explains heterogeneous place fields shifting in the hippocampus. The probability of BTS...

The best Education creates plasticity of thought. Plasticity of thought expands perspective enabling empathy & skepticism beyond current structural social standards. It causes individuals to question everything, even themselves.

my take: old fashioned measures of spontaneous mouse behaviors and "plasticity" associated with those behaviors may have little to do with the therapeutic outcome of receiving psilocybin under clinical supervision

And, before @neurosutras.bsky.social brings this up (because he is one of THE experts), the "millisecond" aspect of the original statement is quite debated with behavioral timescale synaptic plasticity, which acts on longer timescales.

One concern is what Dan mentioned (diversity of plasticity rules).
Then the postsynaptic "firing" does not seem to be necessary - rather postsynaptic depolarization, often induced by a burst.

There's something punk about getting older and having become used to simple tools that only do what they are supposed to do.

It's not specifically a rejection of modernity. I mean some of it is just familiarity, muscle memory and maybe some declining neuto plasticity rather than ideological...

In his book “The Selective Organism”, Pim Edelaar proposes that in addition to natural selection, there is a “second driver” of adaptive evolution. 📖

He explains that non-genetic inheritance and plasticity combine to form a mechanism for non-genetic traits to be passed down 👨‍👩‍👦
