So, out of 10, just 3 are free. Most would cost £50+ for a day out for 2 adults + 2 kids. None are adventure playgrounds in the tradition of a space designed for child-led play, risk, self-built structures, diverse affordances, staffed with skilled playworkers, no entrance fee, etc.

I bet none (or very few) of these are actually adventure playgrounds. Lilidorei (pictured) certainly isn’t (don’t get me started). Sadly, it’s behind a paywall so I’ll never know (unless someone can send me a link - I’ve tried!)

At a trustees’ meeting at Shiremoor Adventure Playground last night, and the playworkers reported an average of 50-60 kids at after-school sessions through October. And a massive 422 visitors (children & adults) for the Halloween playday. It’s such an important place.

'This is Our Playground' is a television documentary from the late 1960s that follows the children and playworkers at the Notting Hill Adventure Playground in West London. The picture quality starts off a bit shaky but stick with it as it improves greatly and some of the play sequences set on the playground serve as a reminder of how exciting and challenging an environment this playground was.
