I've been very quiet here, but here's a great thing that happened recently: Theatre Studies at the U. of Glasgow has launched a *free* online introduction to playwriting in partnership with Playwrights' Studio, Scotland! www.futurelearn.com/courses/an-i... Do pass on to anybody interested!
Introduction to Playwriting - Online Course
In this intro course, you'll generate ideas for a play and get to know genre, drama structure, exposition, dialogue, and drafting.

she also got accepted for a playwriting contest thing that rejected me.

she was kind about that. ("they sent you a personal rejection! that's impressive!")
my daughter invited me to a play then realized she would prefer to see it with her friends and uninvited me.

she was cheerful about it though.

Inventing somebody so you can win an argument with them isn't even bad journalism. It's bad playwriting!
WHY WOULD YOU MAKE UP A PERSON RATHER THAN JUST PICKING UP THE PHONE

I was co-winner of a national playwriting contest with Joyce Carol Oates years ago, I swear that this is true, but I can find no record of it. Maybe I have Mandela Effect-ed myself.

We did it!!

The first non-Kyiv playwriting course of the Veterans’ Theatre, along with a festival of plays by the program’s graduates.

The course brought together 9 veterans and 2 veterans’ spouses. We spent two and a half months together, studying for five hours every weekend.

Theatre books which I refer to often when making work:

12. New Playwriting Strategies - Paul C.Castango

Gives a fresh angle of playwriting possibilities- I dip into to look at whatever I’m working on from a different perspective

Leaving work for the last time before a three week (paid) playwriting residency feels soooo good I highly recommend

We need to have a Doctor Who expanded universe story where the Fourth Doctor has a playwriting battle with Shakespeare and uses the alias Ben Jonson because, I mean, LOOK.

Also, I forgot that OEDIPUS is a prequel to Antigone. Icke does an excellent job of weaving in the dramatic irony of what Antigone, Creone and her brothers will eventually experience. Ugh, I love good playwriting.
I woke up early this morning and read Robert Icke’s new adaptation of OEDIPUS. That man is a genius. Now I want to read all his plays.

This OEDIPUS is set on election night with a real-time countdown clock onstage. The clock it hits zero at the precise moment Jocasta and Oedipus figure it out. 😫

Peter Gill has died.

He taught me more about theatre directing - and playwriting - than anyone else.

The last link to George Devine’s Royal Court.

RIP.

ho ho ho it sounds like the playwrights who run this joint have been playwriting all over it and my body is ready
Watching #TheVampireLestat gave me a TV hangover in the best possible way and I am once again ruined for all other shows. Also, I could’ve easily written a review that was twice as long as this and still not addressed everything great about the season:
Watching 'The Vampire Lestat' Gave Me a TV Hangover | Review
The Vampire Lestat is a thrillingly chaotic continuation of Interview with the Vampire that reinvents the story without sacrificing its overall bite.
