Although it gets extremely busy during the Fringe, for much of the year the Pleasance remains something of a backwater. I often use it as a quiet route to avoid the bustle of the main road, which is now well served by some high-calibre coffee places, including Onto and Bono. Peregrine has joined that company, offering specialty coffee and baked goods made on the premises, but with a noticeably calmer vibe. Just a few minutes from the commotion of Nicholson Street, it feels like a different world – at least outwith August.
