You really want to do something to improve State-DoD coordination around strategies, plans, and capabilities, force DoD and State to involve each other in their planning processes in meaningful ways. POLADs, MILADs, and last-minute pro forma socialization of strategic documents ain’t it, chief.

Colonial powers built up entire bureaucracies (eg the Colonial Office in the UK) to run their empires. I'm sure POLADs got a lot of historical context from that.

I wonder if the CENTCOM and INDOPACOM POLADS might have had differing views on this decision. It’s not like they aren’t *senior State Dept employees* embedded in those organizations for just this reason.
