SOBÓTKA 🔥💧

Or, better known abroad as Kupała Night, Slavic summer solstice!

I've noticed that more and more people in my country celebrate it and it's so heartwarming to me. What a way to honor our identity :)

Jackdaw!

Tried more dynamic shapes overall, plus emphasized the Polish "wycinanka" patterns - body feathers are based on the typical "cuts", and the patterns on the wings are based on flower stalks.

Gonna explore this style some more for sure!

Another bird joins the party! And this time it's the white-tailed eagle. The king of all birds whose gaze pierces the Sun itself. An important figure in our founding myth as well.

Commonly preys on pike (hence there's one in the sky).

OGIEŃ! 🔥 FIREBALL!

White stork... again! We've got many stories about them in our culture; one is that when a stork nests on your house, it protects it from fire. I like to imagine it just snatches it and throws it away somewhere.

A lil bird charm inspired by traditional paper cutouts from the Polish region of Kurpie (with a Baltic amber wing) - handmade. And a *very* unfinished wycinanka of my own in the background, hah!

In my defense, I haven't used polymer clay for 7+ years...

Święty Ogień - Sacred Fire

This is my latest major piece with which I am extremely satisfied. I intended to draw it for our Independence Day (Nov 11) and instead of the Eagle, I depicted a bird that is extremely prominent in our culture: the white stork.

The humble and elusive hawfinch - rendering it with Polish folk patterns was so fun.

I've always imagined it as a rather grumpy and reserved bird. I did manage to spot it a few days ago! Not too easy during breeding season.

Giving the #PolishFolkArt #Wycinanki a try. It’s all cut out paper. I did a basic one and then the second took longer because it h as color pieces added to it. It will take time to get it where I want it to be. It’s pretty meditative.
