#pollshapedobject seen - IPA/Dynata Welcome to Country

- negatively framed questions
- acquiescence bias
- tunnel of agreement a la "Leading Questions" skit
- unreliable pollster

ignore.

Seeing several right-wingers circulating "results" of a news.com.au #pollshapedobject on Welcome to Country. This is simply an opt-in of people who voted on said website - readers skew massively right + opt-ins are prone to brigading and manipulation.

Several News Corp outlets are reporting claims that "Australians are less likely to support a business that boycotts Australia Day". The so-called poll is not a poll, it is an opt-in of News Corp readers, a classic #pollshapedobject

#pollshapedobject

Daily Telegraph never learns - claiming an unscientific opt-in of its own wildly skewed readerbase is a "poll". It's time to ban this nonsense to save such papers from embarrassing themselves.

#pollshapedobject alert - the Australian Population Research Institute is again claiming to have conducted a poll - these are very long surveys awash with leading or defective wordings, disregard.

This is a #pollshapedobject. It's funded by Advance, the pollster's only previous public polls were inaccurate and the preference flows are implausibly weak for those seats.

Excellent Media Watch episode re Compass poll of McMahon shows that Matt Camenzuli's name was prechecked for SMS response though supposedly respondents had to recheck it for response to be counted. Absolutely bizarre survey method. #pollshapedobject

#pollshapedobject IPA Dynata - flagburning

A Nuclear for Australia poll is getting some publicity but the design has a couple of leading Qs that make it more likely respondent will favour nuclear power. #pollshapedobject

General comment: I don't have time to comment on them all but if you assume any given Bondi related poll out there is a #pollshapedobject you'll be right a lot more often than wrong. It's already a magnet for badly worded issue poll questions.

Herald-Sun had some gossip about Nats internal polling supposedly showing Jacinta Allan trailing the generic Nat vote in her seat. While it is not impossible that that is true, the lack of any number or pollster details for scrutiny whatsover renders it a #pollshapedobject.

Annual IPA Australia Day #pollshapedobject is doing the rounds but none of the reports I've seen have the in-field dates (particularly relevant this year) or any link to the question wordings.

#pollshapedobject (so many of them at the moment). IPA questions here obviously leading respondents to agree with them about government spending, blatantly slanted design, disregard.

#pollshapedobject (exit poll) in aisle Sunday Mail re Stafford

1. Labor would probably win on their raw numbers anyway, even with open Greens HTV
2. Prepoll in this seat skewed to LNP by 1.5% 2PP in 2024, and this is early prepoll which may skew more.

Voters want Teal MPs to disclose support for either Labor or Liberals before election
Voters in key battleground electorates held by Teal MPs overwhelmingly want their representative to reveal which major party they will support in the likely event of a hung parliament.

What can be said of this is that if - as it sounds like - the poll asked voters a question about the impact of a single issue on their vote in isolation then it is likely to be worthless anyway. #pollshapedobject
