The same guide looked aghast when someone asked if women ever served on sailing boats - women can't be away from home overnight. He also shared some mind-numbingly archaic views about sex, which he used to explain why polygamy is legal in Egypt but not polyandry

i DID end up mentioning Maury Povich (unplanned!)

i brought in a clip about the practice of fraternal polyandry (brothers marrying the same woman) in Himachal Pradesh.

interviewees in the clip said that when children are born from this union, it doesn’t matter which husband is the bio father…

Polygamy:
• Polygyny: One male, multiple wives. Historically organized around economic preservation or religious mandate.
• Polyandry: One female, multiple husbands. Rare, documented in Himalayan regions to avoid fractionalizing ancestral land among brothers.

I realize that I’m in the extreme minority of people who liked and appreciated dating apps (caveat: only used them late 2015 to early 2017) but this take doesn’t make sense to me:

Polyandry is very rare so when it comes to *actual hetero relationships* (even dates) the swipe ratio is irrelevant?
