No, I meant to highlight the many-to-many relation between genes and phenotypes (polygenic traits, pleiotropic genes). But I get your point.

🧬 Genetic risk and current health measures tell different—and complementary—parts of the story.

Combining polygenic risk scores with clinical biomarkers could help refine cardiometabolic risk prediction and identify meaningful disease subtypes.

Polygenic risk score for myopia prediction and risk stratification in Chinese children
WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN ON THIS TOPIC * Most evidence on polygenic risk scores for myopia comes from populations of European ancestry, while evidence in East Asian children, particularly those from mainland China, remains limited.WHAT THIS STUDY ADDS * A polygenic risk score derived from an East Asian ancestry genome-wide association study was associated with spherical equivalent, axial length and myopia, and identified children with higher genetic susceptibility. However, it provided only modest additional predictive information, while parental myopia contributed more and the combination of both achieved the best predictive performance.HOW THIS STUDY MIGHT AFFECT RESEARCH, PRACTICE OR POLICY * These findings support further evaluation of ancestry-matched polygenic risk scores for childhood myopia risk assessment, although their limited incremental predictive value and the need for external validation currently restrict clinical application.Introduction Myopia is one of the most common ocular disorders and has become a major public health concern as its prevalence has...

Longitudinal prediction of adolescent depression from environmental and polygenic risk scores
Adolescence is a key developmental period characterized by continued brain and bodily development alongside significant life transitions and growing independence. The incidence of depression also rises during adolescence; 47% of people with depressive disorders begin experiencing symptoms by age 25 [1, 2]. Depression during adolescence is associated with poorer health, educational attainment and life satisfaction in adulthood, particularly with younger age of onset [3,4,5]. Such research highlights the need for prevention and early intervention in at-risk youth, and the need for effective methods of quantifying depression risk. Depression, like other mental health disorders, is highly heritable and polygenic, with many hundreds of genetic variations contributing small amounts to overall risk [6,7,8]. However, genetic risk alone is likely to always be insufficient for accurate prediction given the complexity and heterogenous nature of depression [7, 9]; current polygenic risk scores (PRS) representing cumulative genetic risk explain ~6% of variance in adult depression [8]. Additional sources of variance are environmental factors – the individual, family, peer, community and population-level influences on a young person’s life – and gene-environment interaction effects [5]. Incorporating these alongside PRS could improve prediction and future risk stratification of depression [5, 7]. Unlike genetic variants, environmental factors can be...

One that brought in pretty serious mathematical methods and spawned an important sub problem that historically I would have written up as a paper in its own right is figuring out how much the fixation rate increases during polygenic adaptation.

It does set you up ok to oppose polygenic racism if a) you believe in the Biblical creation story, and b) a decent number of polygenists think "Celt" is one of the bad ones.

Modern genetics researchers widely reject this premise, as cognitive ability is massively polygenic, meaning it involves thousands of genes spread across all human chromosomes.
