Roland has announced the release of two new synthesizers in its Boutique series: the Jupiter-08, a portable recreation of the iconic 1981 Jupiter-8 analog polysynth, and the N/vision, a new wavetable synth. The Jupiter-08 celebrates the 45th anniversary of the original Jupiter-8, which was released in 1981 and remains one of the most beloved synthesizers in history. The new Jupiter-08 uses Roland's ABM (Analogue Behaviour Modelling) technology to model the original's oscillators and filters, while adding modern enhancements. It features an eight-voice/two-part architecture, with the ability to expand polyphony to 32 voices. The synth includes features like Dual mode for layering patches and Split mode for playing on either side of the keyboard. The front panel closely follows the original Jupiter-8 design, with VCO-1 having cross-mod and VCO-2 having sync and fine tune, along with a separate high-pass filter. Unlike the previous JP-08, the Jupiter-08 uses ABM instead of ACB (Analogue Circuit Behaviour) technology, allowing for increased polyphony. The N/vision is the first wavetable synth in the Boutique range, featuring 63 factory wavetables that can be blended using a dual-layer architecture. It includes a waveshaper for transforming waveforms, an analog-modelled filter with vintage-inspired models, and drive for added bite. Both synths come with a 25-key detachable keyboard (K-25m), 64-step polyphonic sequencer, arpeggiator, and a range of digital effects including reverb, delay, chorus, and bitcrusher. They also share connectivity options including 3.5mm headphone output, main output, auxiliary input, 5-pin MIDI In/Out, and USB-C for audio and MIDI. The Jupiter-08 is priced at $549.99 and available now, as is the N/vision. This release marks a significant addition to Roland's Boutique series, offering both a tribute to a classic synth and a new direction with the wavetable synth.
