Wow, indeed.

We predicted 15+ years ago that thermodynamically there was in principle nothing stopping extra large pore zeolites from being synthesised* (pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10....) and it's cool that such zeolites are indeed now being prepared experimentally.

MERGED NETS.💎
A few days ago, we published about reticular chemistry and merged nets in @science.org.
We identified compatible topologies to be merged into merged-nets. These new nets can help designing multicomponent materials like #MOFs.

Wow, this is impressive.

ZMQ-1 is a stable, aluminosilicate #zeolite, with 28 member rings, giving it a pore dimension of 2.3 nm × 1.2 nm, which is well into the mesopore regime.

Casual #blueSci reminder: you might want to avoid making statements whose validity is a function of time. 'Best', 'ultra-high', 'definitive', 'final', etc. will likely result in strong claims turning plain wrong in future years/decades/(...) #pormatsky #crystallography #compchemsky #chemsky

The Cambridge Structural Database has been updated with 20,653 structures.

Just over half of these new structures are metal-organic structures that can be classified as coordination complexes and metal-organic frameworks (#MOFs).

5-fold symmetry is not compatible with periodic tilings. How does nature respond, when it is forced to use this local symmetry in building blocks for extended structures?
The result is internal strain, self limiting assembly and topological defects.
