This is the second batch of Magma art jam drawings that I did. I might return to using hashtags, since there's an alt text image description thing that I just noticed. Or I could just say: Image contains drawings of: lizards, faces, portraits, studies, textures, shapes.
Title: jam 2 This is the second batch of Magma art jam drawings that I did. I kept everything at its original resolution, which is why there's an odd variation in sizes. I like how some of these turned out. I drew them because I want to get better at drawing faces, expressions, shapes, textures ... and lizards. Some of the drawings are quite small, so details can be easily missed. It might be worth zooming in on them: - The top-left rocks have textures and spikes. - The small lizard at the top has textured edges and a unique head shape. - The faces in the top-right are the best-looking faces I've done so far, so I think there's some improvement there. - The lizard-like creature in the bottom-left was Frankensteined together: its arms are human-like, eyes are oversized, and its frills and body shape are somewhat unusual. Some notes about my process: When drawing heads, I start by blocking in the dark areas around the eyes with a thicker brush, then add the finer details with a thinner brush. When forming shapes, I keep the darkest areas in mind. I also sketch out the shadows first, then blend areas that look too much like lines. I used photo references to varying degrees for all of these.

local man weary and resigned to the fact that he has to do this (he does not, in fact, have to do this)

last week kicked me in the can irl so I couldn't do ALL of the portraits I wanted, but glad I could finish Vloxx at least!

A digital painting of Vloxx from the game Guild Wars 2 shown from the waist up. The scene is set at night with a waterfall surrounded by rocks in the background. An Ascended Vloxx is shown clutching Ancora with both hands as he looks at the viewer with a resigned, almost sorrowful expression.

The cover art for The Little Death by Susan Beth Cole. Mina straddles Lucifer as he holds her. His black wings are spread, keeping them aloft above lava. The night sky is behind them. Luci is wearing all black. Mina is wearing a blue dress that flows behind her. It’s truly gorgeous artwork by the very talented Meowlayn. The front cover of The Quickening, artwork by the very talented Meowlayn. There is a purple sky that fades into a reddish tint closer to the horizon. Mountains line the background, with jagged rocks and lava. There are spirits being released into the sky and all around where Dahlia, with auburn hair, blue eyes, and freckles, stands above Oscar, one leg up and bent, her hip cocked at an angle. She holds his cowboy hat, her other hand cups the back of his head. He’s on his knees before her, one had clasped on her thigh, the other holding her waist. She’s in a blazer and matching skirt with a light purple blouse. He’s wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. His feet are bare. Text above them reads, “Susan Beth Cole.” Across the bottom reads, “The Quickening: A Paradises Ours Novel Book 2” Tabitha stands on tip-toe to press a kiss to Gabriel’s cheek. The angel grips her in return, their gold and magenta wings flung wide. Lava and rock lay at their feet. The night sky is beyond them. Suspended above them are the portraits of War, Death, and Infertility. The Cataclysm A Paradise Ours Novel Book 3 by Susan Beth Cole. Artwork by the very talented Meowlayn. The front cover of Lilith and Alastor Fight a War. Lilith sits on Alastor’s lap while they stare at one another, both with amused expressions. Her hand grips the hair at the back of his head while he holds her gently. A bookcase sits behind them. Cover art by Meowlayn.

Watercolors were placed in frames embedded into a long plank of wood typical in the construction of Sami fishing boats. They were printed on textiles attached to fish drying frames, and on screens in wooden lightboxes inside dresser drawers, cycling through the life and times of HR Mathieson.

Me in a Heaven Crowley cosplay lounging on a bench. You can see the snake lining inside my tan jacket as well as the tight gray trousers, gold waistcoat and scarf thing, sunglasses, and white streaks in the red hair. Me in Heaven Crowley cosplay in a standing pose. Same outfit, again showing off the snake lining. I have a hand in my pocket and one foot stepping on a knocked down chess piece (the black king). You can see the snakeskin boots in this pose. This photo has a "Heavenly" aura to it, kind of soft and shimmery. Me in Heaven Crowley cosplay in a standing pose. Artists, QRP with your style range.
Clean pixel art scene, in the style of retro video games like Super Mario. There are two people, a man in a black hat and another in a brown outfit, having a stand off in the middle of the desert, surrounded by cacti and rocks. There are mountains and a wagon in the background. Digital illustration of my Star Wars OCs Khari and Faye. They are standing with their backs to each other, ignited lightsabers in their hands. Khari is a Togruta Jedi, with a perplexed expression on her face. She has a round face, a large body and wide thighs and hips. She has white headtails with purple dots. She has purple skin and yellow eyes and light grey, asymmetrical face patterns. She wears a gold ring in her left nostril. She wears a dark gray tank top, an arm band and gloves. She has high-rise, gray pants with a purple stripe. She's holding a single bladed blue lightsaber with a golden hilt. Faye is a cyborg Sith, consternation and disdain on her face, a double-bladed blue lightsaber in one hand, Force lightning sparkling around the other. She has a pointy face and a lean body. She has light blue hair, brown skin and blue eyes. She wears heavy make-up. There are multiple cybernitic implants on her face: one in her ear, and another around her right eye. She wears a dark red Sith Archon armor with a cape, shoulder pads and striped pants. The top of her cybernetic left leg is just visible in the frame. The two of them are standing in Taris, among ruins, a pale yellow sun shining behind them. OC meme with three portraits: my fav character (Harley Quinn) + my OC (Ebyana Kristegald) = mix (Harlyana Quintegald). The three portraits are on a light purple background, and each picture has a diamond pattern behind the character. All three of them are drawn in a cartoony style with large, shiny button eyes. Harley Quinn has blond hair, styled as pigtails. The ends of her hair are blue and pink. She has pale skin, an upturned nose and large front teeth. She has a tattoo of a heart on her cheek. She's holding a board with her name as if it were a mug shot. She's wearing a blue and red jersey. Ebyana has dark blue, curly hair, held up in a bun. She has brown skin and a large, round nose. She's smiling, holding her hand up in a wave. She's wearing a grey and blue mage's cloak. Harlyana has a similar cloak, but it's red and blue, parted in the middle, just like her hair. She has curly hair like Ebyana, only she has two buns. She has brown skin, but an upturned nose like Harley, albeit bigger. Marker drawing of Jubilee from Marvel. She has a short, black hair, pink sunglasses pushed up on her fore head. She has beige skin, smiling eyes and a round face. She's wearing round, pink earrings, a pink turtleneck and a large, yellow coat. She is surrounded by stars and sparkles.

Happy World Photography Day! #WorldPhotographyDay commemorates the invention of the daguerreotype, a photographic process developed by Louis Daguerre in 1837.

Here’s a peek at just some of the beautiful photos we have in the collection, from portraits of familiar faces to dreamy underwater scenes.
A black and white photo of an older man with hands in his pockets and a faint smile leaning in a dark doorway framed by large vertical letters on either side of him reading "HI-B BAR," while a partially visible person seems to be walking into the frame but is not yet fully visible; a quiet moment outside of a pub in Cork City Centre. A vivid photograph of a woman standing in the shallows of a beach inlet, up to her ankles in water, pouring water over her head from a flowering can while a chair next to her is on fire and billowing dark smoke into the clear sky. A photographic portrait of footballer Roy Keane, looking directly into the camera with a direct, wide and intense gaze. He is holding up the skull of a bird with a long beak that is partially opened, and the open top and bottoms of the beak frame his right eye. A vividly crisp black and white photo of a stack of flat rocks, likely from a building or part of a paving, stacked in a short tower with holes, cracks and layers visible. The photo is completely empty of colour but the details of the stones are crisp and clear.

Sharing some self portraits that @feistywaters.com & me did while visiting Joshua Tree National Park that may have a familiar feel to them for #MonochromeMonday.
A striking black and white photograph captures two individuals in a vast, sun-drenched desert landscape under a partially cloudy sky. A large, gnarled Joshua tree dominates the left side of the frame, its spiky branches reaching upwards, surrounded by scattered rocks on the sandy ground. Mountains are faintly visible on the horizon, stretching across the background. Utility poles and power lines traverse the middle ground, adding an element of human infrastructure to the natural setting. On the left, a person with short, dark hair stands in profile, looking down with a contemplative posture. They wear a patterned tank top, revealing tattoos on their arm, and dark shorts. To the right, further back, a man stands facing the viewer with his arms crossed, wearing a light-colored t-shirt and dark shorts, his expression neutral. Both individuals cast long, distinct shadows on the sandy, tire-tracked ground, indicating the strong overhead sun. The overall atmosphere is stark and quiet, emphasizing the vastness of the desert and the solitary figures within it. A stark black and white photograph captures a man and a Joshua tree in a desert landscape under a bright sky. In the foreground on the right, a man with a serious expression looks directly at the viewer. He wears a dark baseball cap and a light-colored t-shirt with a graphic print featuring a road and two figures. His face is largely obscured by the shadow of his cap, highlighting a strong jawline and faint stubble. To the man's left, dominating the left half of the frame, stands a large, mature Joshua tree with its characteristic spiky branches and dense foliage. The ground beneath them is dry, sandy, and scattered with small rocks and sparse desert vegetation, casting long, dark shadows. In the mid-ground, extending towards the right horizon, are several utility poles with power lines stretching across the open terrain. Distant hills or mountains line the horizon, and the sky above is bright with some streaky clouds or possibly a contrail, adding texture to the otherwise expansive background. The lighting is harsh, creating deep shadows and strong contrasts that emphasize the rugged beauty of the desert environment. A stark black and white photograph captures two figures in a vast desert landscape under a dramatic sky. In the foreground, slightly to the left, a woman stands in profile, looking downwards with a pensive expression. She has short, dark hair and tattoos are visible on her left arm. She wears a patterned sleeveless top and dark bottoms, casting a long, dark shadow on the light, sandy ground stretching to the right. Behind her and further to the left, a man stands with his arms crossed, facing forward but slightly out of focus. He wears a light-colored t-shirt and shorts. The ground is dry and dusty, showing faint tracks and sparse low-lying vegetation. To the right, a prominent Joshua tree with its distinctive spiky, branching limbs stands tall, surrounded by a circle of rocks at its base. In the midground, several utility poles with power lines extend across the undulating terrain, leading towards distant, hazy mountains under a large, cloudy sky. The clouds feature long, streaky patterns, possibly contrails, adding to the expansive and somewhat desolate atmosphere. The strong, high-contrast lighting emphasizes textures and shadows, giving the scene a timeless and rugged feel. The overall mood is one of quiet contemplation amidst a harsh, natural environment, with the human figures appearing small against the vastness of the desert. A striking black and white photograph captures a woman standing in profile, gazing towards the left amidst a vast, arid desert landscape. The woman, with short hair and wearing a dark baseball cap, is positioned slightly to the right of the frame's center. She wears a sleeveless top with a geometric pattern, and a distinctive tattoo of a branch with berries or grapes is visible on her left upper arm. A noticeable baby bump suggests she is pregnant, adding a personal narrative to the expansive scene. To her immediate left, a large, silhouetted Joshua tree stands prominently, its spiky branches reaching upwards against the sky. Rocks are arranged in a rough circle around the base of the tree on the sandy, textured ground, which shows faint tire tracks. In the middle ground, multiple utility poles with power lines stretch horizontally across the frame, leading towards distant, hazy mountains on the horizon. The sky above is partially covered with streaky clouds and what appear to be contrails, creating dynamic patterns against the lighter sky, indicative of a bright, open day. The high-contrast black and white palette accentuates the textures of the desert, the woman's clothing, and the dramatic shapes of the Joshua tree and clouds. The overall atmosphere is one of quiet contemplation and resilience, highlighting the solitary figure against the raw beauty of the desert environment.
