So much winning...

* UK services exports 4-5% lower due to Brexit
* Losses have not been offset by increased trade with non-EU markets

⬇️ British services exports are thought to be around 4-5% lower than they would have otherwise been without Brexit.

❌ That equates to billions of pounds in lost revenue for British businesses every year.

Brexit “quietly fetters access to the €18tn continental economy that lies on the UK's doorstep.”

“Each year we are outside the EU is another year in which we are poorer than we need to be”

Absolutely not the actions of a country that has got its shit together.

With the escalation of the US-Canada trade war and oil prices expected to spike even further, I wouldn't be surprised if more companies stop doing free shipping and free returns as well as raise rates for both of those services. Also more financial pressure on USPS and Canada Post.

Brexit is battering our services sector, exports to the EU are down nearly 16%, with red tape, licensing hurdles and loss of mutual recognition costing firms clients and cash.

The Business Secretary is currently in Japan.

He's used it as a chance to pop in to the Fujistu offices to speak to them about making contributions to the compensation scheme for the Horison/Post Office scandal.

Looks like we might be getting some of the compensation money back from Fujitsu!

‼️New report out today 'Trading blows' with @sophiehale.bsky.social

We reflect on the UK's trade landscape post-Brexit and Covid - e.g. that exports of some highly regulated professional services – like accounting & tax, engineering, and legal – are growing slower than the average service sector.

Hard data proves Brexit was a war on working people.

Cutting ourselves off from EU supply chains hit turnover, cut hours, and lowered weekly pay.

Slogans didn't protect British workers. 👇 #RejoinEU
Post-Brexit trade policy hit supply chains and workers | LSE British Politics
After Brexit, declines in trade led to less employment and lower pay for workers– with firms importing both goods and services hit the hardest.

It explains what would and wouldn’t work for through trains to London
The future of long distance train services through the Channel Tunnel - Jon Worth
TL;DR – whatever you read in the press about future long distance train services through the Channel Tunnel is at best only part of the truth, because the reality is complicated Periodically stories appear in newspapers, on radio and television, and also in the dedicated railway trade press, about future […]

President Donald Trump called for a 100 percent tariff on movies produced overseas in a Truth Social post Sunday night, confounding studio executives and critics about what this could mean for the heavily globalized film industry.

🤥 Trump’s complaints about the 🇺🇸-🇨🇦 trade deficit ignores facts:
✅ USMCA addressed trade imbalances
✅ US has a services surplus w/ Canada
✅ Trade deficits aren’t always bad
We benefits from lower-cost imports
🤥 His rhetoric post-USMCA is political, not economic reality

One can, and the 2004-6 period did see a bulge in financial services 'productivity', but theory and evidence suggests the 2000s wasn't all bubble. New IT roll-out, broad-based productivity growth, rapid global trade integration pre-crisis, zero-lower bound post-crisis.
