Yes. And anybody who has seen postpolio syndrome has seen polio.
I have seen polio. In mice that I experimentally infected as a PhD student. It's one of the most horrific disease phenotypes I've ever seen in 25 years of studying viral pathogenesis & that includes Ebola.
Enabling polio in American kids is monstrous.

that's 69 years from 1955 to now, btw. Less than one lifetime for people to forget what life used to be like. (Long covid is going to be worse than postpolio syndrome, I'm calling it now.)

What the graph doesn’t show is the longterm damage that polio wrought on the people who caught it as children & survived. My kids’ granddad ended up with a withered calf & has gradually lost his ability to walk. My nextdoor neighbor shuffles with effort to her front gate & back. Postpolio syndrome.

The first measles vaccine came out in 1963. Children & adults lined up to get it. My mother lost three cousins to whooping cough. My grandfather survived scarlet fever & TB; the effects of those diseases caused his early death. I know a dozen people who had polio & live with postpolio syndrome.

Antivaxxers make me crazy. I have postpolio and can no longer walk. I had all the childhood diseases. I knew kids with complications from those diseases including death.i knew kids who were affected by the measles their Mothers had while pregnant.

Boostrix 4fach, alle 10 Jahre. Wir hatten 2 Poliofälle in der Familie, beide litten 30+ Jahre am Postpolio-Syndrom. Das braucht niemand.

Polio virus has been found in New York waste water and that can’t be the only place. Still very much with us. My mother had polio and died of postpolio syndrome. I don’t want that again for our children.

I am physio for 21 years now and have not seen a singel fresh polio case and only 6 people with postpolio issues.
Thats how effective vaccines are, go and get them!

Mitch survived polio (which will return if RFK has his way). It may be postpolio he’s suffering from. If so, his days are numbered. I watched my mother die of postpolio syndrome.

The start of my career as a physical therapist involved working with people with postpolio syndrome worsened again by the effects of aging. Why we’d want to relive that nightmare is totally beyond me.

My mother contracted polio July 1952. I watched her die of postpolio syndrome. About two-thirds of polio victims develop it well after the fact.
It’s not eradicated by any means. It’s still here.

My dad had polio. He was born 4 years before the vaccine came out. It really is a horrific disease. It wrecked his body for his entire life. Postpolio syndrome was especially difficult in his later years. Not excited for the possibility of it’s return
