Imposter syndrome is hitting so HARD!!!!! today and actually probably for the first time. But the proofreading must go on, and luckily Chapter 19 has a "difference" to offer.

textbox with the words "no spoilers for you!" blocking some text. Longwei approached his companions. “If you two have settled your differences, can we !nally eat? Can’t !ght evil Empresses on an empty stomach,” he joked. Hu Jindai, his mouth open as if about to say something, stared at him for a moment, then laughed. “Should you not be sated already? I believe it was you who kept tasting the rabbit stew after every stir.

Well, since I'm editing the final proof for Phoenix Rises Dragon Soars, I think I can consider it a WIP temporarily and post a photo from the book. This one just fell into my lap. 😁

“Is that all?”
“I found the Lord General’s trail again when he used his magical powers to kill a man in Songjin.”
“Oh, Jindai. How careless of you. I thought you were smarter,” the Empress said in a low voice and shook her head. She seemed to talk to herself, more than Jing. “On the other hand, we are now certain of his powers. His mistake is our gain.”
Then she waved at the fox spirit and raised her voice. “Go on.”

I wasn't sure I'd have any 'yard's in Phoenix Rises Dragon Soars. Well, I have 26 yards and courtyards 😁 This is the final one from Ch. 30, and a dark one, though I've only reached Ch. 22 on my proof reading quest.

Could the prospect of losing his love drive him to do things he would not normally consider? Jindai sighed and closed his eyes for an instant. He could see Ai smiling at him, Mei and Gang laughing and chasing each other in the yard. The image faded as quickly as it had appeared, leaving him empty and his chest tight with grief. Yes, losing a loved one might make a man do things he never thought possible. More than once, Jindai had wanted to follow Ai and the children into the next life.

I'm finally done, done, done! The most final of final edits on Phoenix Rises Dragon Soars, the one after proof reading is done, and I can now sit back (kinda) until release on the 14th October 🥳
Time to get back to editing Book 2.

black cat next to phoenix rises dragon soars book phoenix rises dragon soars book cover An empire in turmoil. A forbidden magic promising death. Four lives changed forever. The Emperor is dead and his widow’s rule drowns the land in fear. Soldiers terrorise the very people they should protect, taxes bleed the poor, and the executioner’s blade awaits any accused of using magic. A mercenary haunted by his past risks his future for a chance at the family he thought he could never have. A noblewoman, bereft of home and memory, begins reclaiming her past to avenge those she lost. A disgraced commander hunts the truth behind his family’s murders, leaving death and destruction in his wake. A shamaness is driven from sanctuary by the desperate actions of a grieving man. Through everything, the thread of a dangerous magic runs deep. Volatile as its wielder’s emotions, it forges bonds of loyalty and love and holds the power to reshape the Empire’s fate. But trust is fragile. And when long-buried secrets surface, bonds may shatter… And vengeance may be all that remains. Set in a world inspired by Imperial China, Phoenix Rises Dragon Soars is a dark character-driven epic fantasy and the unforgettable beginning of the Four Guardians Trilogy.
