One thing we can do to challenge systemic barriers in the publishing industry is throw our support behind Black and brown people in publishing.

Here’s an author I want you to do that for. Go pre-order this incredible fantasy! When it launches next month, I’ll be hosting a buddyread!

Does anyone know how publishers designed books before computers? It came up last night in conversation and I realised I have no idea how layouts happened pre desktop publishing! #Publishing

they could use some help. Quote: "To help the publishing house resume operations as quickly as possible, pre-orders for upcoming releases (including “Fugitive Telemetry”) and purchases of Zhorzh titles currently on bookstore shelves are critically important." I don't know if 2/-

Coming next year, meet Sycamore Bell. He's not the world's greatest detective. But he does answer the world's greatest detective's letters.

The NYT publishing a pre-written “who won the debate” piece in favor of Republicans is pretty indisputable evidence what their intentions are

I am only 12% into Rose of Jericho by @alexgrecian.bsky.social and I immediately went to @bookshop-org.bsky.social to buy it and Red Rabbit. It is a historical Supernatural horror with a character named Sadie, ghosts, witches, and a haunted village. I'm loving it

Some pre-publishing tidbits would be fun.

Honestly, a lot of people are reading -- more than pre-pandemic -- and maybe publishing houses should stop panicking and just be allowed to focus on cultivating authors AND readers, feeding and growing that audience. Wild concept, I know.

Tutorials on crowd-funding and pre-press for self-publishing would be absolutely stellar, actually ⬇️
For those who recognize correctly that the indie comics landscape is sparse at best in 2024, and want to give crowdfunding a try, it'd be neat if there were more up-to-date guides out there. Who are the good printers? How do you lay out a comic in Publisher? What rewards are sensible? Etc.
Between this and the IDW quote about page rates, the list of indie comics folks that ARE safe to work with is much smaller these days.

Iron Circus
Mad Cave (including Maverick and Papercutz)
Dark Horse

Ummmm. Is that it? It's a short list. Feels like most folks are better off crowdfunding.

i’ve said this before, but there’s going to be a distinction in publishing between pre and post LLM books, sort of like there is pre and post nuclear steel.
June 16, 2025 at 2:42 PM
gonna say that if a poorly written thinly-veiled "Harry Potter rape fantasy with the serial numbers filed off" book got a six-figure publishing deal and pre-sold movie rights then all the wonderfully written trans books you and I know of deserve AT LEAST more than that.
