I knew r/Prequelmemes were going to end up being 4chan 2.0, unsurprising as it was made by actual and ironic prequel fans from 4chan.
The funniest part being that the backlash produced The Rise of Skywalker -- which is essentially a more competently made Prequel.

Post-election analysis: the Meme Magic® of 2016 Pepe summoning the ancient god Kek was OP and they would have been able to just deploy it again maybe but instead they had to try Malfoid and busted r/prequelmemes because Elon killed all the Pepe stuff through pure cringe with Kekius Maximus etc

r/prequelmemes was one of the most effective psyops of the 21st century.

r/prequelmemes was one of the most effective psyops of the 21st century.
There was a definitive point where places like r/PrequelMemes went from "making fun of the awkward/badness of the Prequels" to a Gamergate-style campaign of relitigating them as "crypto-fascist meme warfare" against the "wokeness" and direct anti-fascism of The Last Jedi.

I wish people would have learned by now that this isn't some sort of 4D chess move, but instead is simply the work of a bunch of 20-something wannabe edgelords who think "meme magic" brought Trump to power grew up on /r/PrequelMemes

More than just a trojan horse, these memes effectively serve as an in-group critique targeting institutional and mainstream conservatives. It’s not simply about airing frustration, but capitalizing on frustration *with* Trump to shame people into more radical beliefs. www.axios.com/2026/11/02/a...

The foundational joke with the Malfoid one at least is essentially misogyny which is always in season (‘foid’ is frontier incel slang for women; contracted from femoid)
Anakin one mostly feels like the logical conclusion of r/PrequelMemes

The reverse is actually what happened; r/PrequelMemes became a mildly viral subreddit and various meme cultures revised the prequels as good, actually by way of Poe's Law.

R/prequelmemes is like at least 50% rots which makes it one of the most entertaining star wars movies, especially to watch in a group doing a drinking game

One was fun, well enough received, and was released at a time where the nitpicking was kept to a minimum. Then the internet got ahold of it and created prequelmemes. Then it became endearing nostalgia.

My conspiracy theory is that the change in mood on /r/prequelmemes was actually astroturfing by Disney.
It happened sometime around 2012, when The Clone Wars animated series was getting cancelled and people said how good it really was. Lucasfilm brought it back for a season on Netflix after that.

This is objectively, verifiably untrue.

Zillenial here. I was too young to have opinions on the movies as they came out; they were just another part of Star Wars to me. I was an r/PrequelMemes browser which definitely elevated them a bit in my mind. Was aware they were "lesser" but I enjoyed them
