#presenteeism
Wondering also how many hospital staff are infected in their workplace due to the lack of clean air

Implications for HCWs’ long term health, staff shortages, presenteeism, increased use of agency staff…..

Cost, efficiency, patient care, staff safety.

No brainer 🦠😷😷
"As a result, as many as one in five hospital beds can be occupied by someone who was infected in hospital.

Those blocked beds back up emergency departments and delay care for everyone else."

Great start to the day- woke up feeling ropey so text boss to ask if they want me in-office or WFH. Don't get a response but company increasingly big on presenteeism so get myself onto a bus.

Poor management (34.7%) and reliance on Over-the-Counter (OTC) analgesics (65.3%) were common. Work impact was substantial, with 44% reporting moderate-to-severe absenteeism and 55% presenteeism. (🧵 5/7)

"Presenteeism" is a fucking curse (says the former restaurant guy).

Let's leave the corporate presenteeism of the 1900s behind.

We need smarter work, better health, and progress we can genuinely feel in our day-to-day lives.

It’s time for a 4-day week. ⏰

Work participation in inborn errors of immunity: The dual burden on patients and caregivers
Despite improved survival and workforce participation, IEI markedly impairs productivity in patients and caregivers, largely driven by presenteeism related

Instead of this pointless presenteeism that requires us to work through potentially dangerous viruses. It’s not like you’re actually productive in the workplace when you’re 75% Day Nurse tablets anyway.

Message from colleague today that she's gone into work sick. This is the problem with not having adequate sick pay and leave, presenteeism!! Ugh. Round and round we go.....

COVID-19 exposure mgmt cut infectious work ~8h & presenteeism ~3.5h; onward exposure ↓62-66%, secondary cases ↓79-100%, but >350 self-reports needed to prevent 1 case.🦠👩‍⚕️
Comparative effectiveness of proactive exposure management and illness-based exclusion strategies for COVID-19 in healthcare personnel
View abstract Objective:To evaluate whether COVID-19 exposure management in healthcare personnel (HCP) reduced presenteeism, occupational exposures and cases, comparing contact tracing and self-reporting exposure to standard illness management (i.e. calling out sick).Design:Retrospective cohort study.Setting:Large academic medical center, ambulatory and acute care.Participants:HCP COVID-19 exposure and case records (N = 30,102) collected at the University of North Carolina Medical Center, March 2020 through June 2021.Methods:Among COVID-positive HCP, we measured hours worked while infectious and symptomatic, onward exposures, and secondary cases caused. Using negative binomial regression, we estimated mean count differences for each outcome comparing contact-tracing and self-reporting to standard illness management. We calculated the “number of encounters needed” to prevent one additional outcome (e.g., single onward exposure) by multiplying count differences by the proportion of exposure management encounters that identified a case. Results:Contact tracing and self-reporting exposures captured a higher proportion of asymptomatic cases (14 and 18%) than standard illness management (5%). Both strategies reduced infectious work time by ~8 hours and presenteeism by ~3.5 hours. We found large relative reductions in onward exposures (62% contact tracing, 66% self-report) and secondary cases (79%, 100%), but small absolute reductions. Preventing one secondary case required identifying >1,000 traced contacts or >350 self-reports.Conclusions:Compared with standard illness management, COVID-19 exposure management reduced infectious work time, presenteeism and onward exposures, but preventing secondary cases was highly inefficient. Layered with comprehensive institutional mitigation strategies, exposure management provided limited case prevention benefits. Presenteeism was common and remains an important healthcare safety challenge.

This is unfortunately because NHS England & Dept of Health continue to push the "vax and relax" approach to pandemic management.
Covid is still spreading and ruining lives, harming our immune systems & ensuring that we are all sicker, and for longer. Presenteeism is making others ill.

Attempting to discuss math while on a hilarious amount of cold medicine is really just not a good idea. Even better, I'm discussing presenteeism while sick stats, which would be me if I didn't work from home.

Anecdotal evidence, but still a little funny.

Respiratory infections cost UK employers about £44 billion a year in lost productivity, or £852 per employee. Most of that is presenteeism, not sick days.

UKHSA already suggests a mask if you go out while symptomatic. Why it still feels odd here: www.medicaldaily.co.uk/uk-respirato...

Actually came into the office today. Other than a bit of gossip, very little work done. I don’t know why people are clinging to presenteeism, we all get far more done at home now.

was forced to do presenteeism today ie work in the office and not the archive room one minute away from it where most of the work is “because i need direction.” i’ll let you guess how much direction i was given for the first two hours

23 years ago, I wrote an editor's letter for the mag about the disappearance of redundant time. We were getting so good to optimising - and the cults of 'grinding' and presenteeism were getting so embedded - that we were losing something really valuable to our wellbeing and creativity: time to think
