It didn’t panic, it’s incapable of experiencing panic.

It read lots of human written stuff and replicated a probabilistic human response.

Another camera, microphone, screen and probabilistic word machine hooked up to all your accounts and devices, able to dominate your life. What a time to be alive.
It’s increasingly difficult to understand what they are actually selling because what they are selling is surveillance.

Big if true, & great use of AI!

Microsoft developed an open-source machine learning tool, Probabilistic Bias Correction (PBC), to improve weather forecasts two to six weeks in advance. PBC corrects systematic biases in existing weather models, improving predictions of precipitation and temperature.
Microsoft has a new machine learning tool to improve weather forecasts
It’s more energy-efficient than other AI models.

In a new study, NYBG Senior Curator Fabian A. Michelangeli and collaborators use a probabilistic framework to map global biomes as climatic domains, evaluating potential biome reorganization and ecotone shifts under climate change.

Mapping Biome Boundaries From Climate Patterns: A Machine Learning Framework
Aim To develop a climate-based, probabilistic framework that maps global biomes as climatic domains and explicitly quantifies the spatial distribution and intensity of biome transition zones. Locat...

Nope it does not validate anything, LLMs are a probabilistic making things up machine, although having said that I wouldn't be surprised if the American legal system starts taking the so called AI utterances as fact, so there is that. Please try not to use them, frog and boiling water..

irelink is now on CRAN. It is a translation of Python's beloved record linkage package splink into a friendly, pipeable #rstats syntax

If you try it out and have feedback, please let me know!

MDN-VJEPA is a multimodal probabilistic JEPA that instantiates the latent predictor as a mixture density network representing future states with a Gaussian mixture. Controlled experiments show that MDN-VJEPA closely recovers known branching predictive laws.

Thinking of a guy who doesn't use AI because using probabilistic systems is gambling and that's a sin.

We’re moving from "search" to "synthesis." The issue isn't LLM fallibility; it’s our reliance on them as truth engines rather than probabilistic reasoning tools. We need better validation layers.

Probabilistic error cancellation can be built from experiments with 0, 1, 2, 3… extra errors inserted.

Combine their results with the prescribed signed weights. In the noise model, the complete sum cancels the noise and recovers the ideal expectation value.

Microsoft unveils Decision-1 AI

Microsoft released Decision-1, an AI model for routing and classification tasks, providing predefined probabilistic answers at lower cost than general LLMs. A practical move to make AI workflows more efficient by specializing decision-making. 🧠

There is something in writers—authors, as you have it—that feels that *their* words matter. LLMs inherently devalue words: they are the products of stolen ideas, and they issue forth nothing more than probabilistic vomit. Good luck with the ethical part.

Their probabilistic squeeze chute did its job and lead him where they wanted him to go, although as she tries not to get too deep into that analogy. The other, quieter oath she took before it doesn't mean she never swore the Hippocratic, and the boy still technically is her patient.

In these slides, they make a distinction between spellcheck and chatbots. That is the one place I'd even push back. Calculators and writing are not probabilistic technologies. Stochastic spellcheck *makes no sense*. Have you seen autocorrect bs? Back to finite state machines, please!

Idk, I feel like probabilistic definitions of safety get pretty fuzzy too.

Mathematicians are feeling threatened by AI, but I guess linguists are more severely affected. When you don't want anything probabilistic in your model of language, when that's just inadmissible (you must have type-safety, precision and logical soundness) the capabilities of LLMs must be troubling.
