Is that your propshaft or are you just happy to see me? 😏

My rewritten guide on the Rails Asset Pipeline just landed in `main`. This was a big-ish change, streamlining the narrative to focus on Propshaft and how it works.

Check it out:

“Err guys, that’s *not* a propshaft as we first thought”

Are you changing the world with AI? That's great!
I managed to expose assets to both a sprockets and a propshaft app from a Rails engine. File and CSS `url()` support with proper paths 😬

You thought those old tanks were squeaky. Lol. Wait till you hear a LCS propshaft turning.

I was trying to deploy a Rails 8 app yesterday and they actually tried to tell me I had to propshaft a kamal turbo livewire thruster or toad the wet sprockets or something. Complete nonsense; obvious subterfuge.

Vite is the build tool every frontend developer wants, but it's not in rails new.

Vite and Propshaft (Rails' asset pipeline) have refused to work together for years.

@skryukov.dev made that incompatibility disappear with rails_vite (github.com/skryukov/rai...).

I love this deep dive into importmap and propshaft from Radan Skorić

We use both at Judoscale, and even though each of these are simple in isolation, it's crucial to understand how they work together.

Unfortunately I'm paying for a new suspension arm and propshaft tomorrow.

If you want to use an npm package that you can’t just pin to the importmap but that needs bundling, do you need to abandon the default Rails asset pipeline? Absolutely not, here’s how you can bundle just one package and keep the rest on vanilla Rails asset pipeline: radanskoric.com/articles/rai...

Take off the rear propshaft first. See if that frees up the diff. A starter..

It looks like the propshaft is only gonna be about a meter long, hahaha

I take exception to this. There's enough crap in the cut already getting stuck round my propshaft. Send them to the anaerobic digester.
