both these dudes would have a 3 month long meltdown about unfairness if you offered them a publishing salary
Bet you can’t name a single straight man that’s getting published right now…

Professionals who work in publishing hate the AI tools being foisted on them, authors hate AI (including me, I'm quoted here along with @scalzi.com ), but other than that, it's all going great in publishing!

This is everywhere right now as far as I can tell. Devs, publishing, analysis. There's nowhere to go.
A quick note for the people reading my EA story and thinking 'well, if it's so bad, why don't they leave?'

Simply, there is nowhere to go. There is dearth of jobs right now across the game industry—just relentless cuts across the board—and people cannot just uproot their lives on a whim.

publishing this framed as a major scandal that they've uncovered is deeply irresponsible in context of the Trump's adminstration's ongoing effort to abuse the legal system to steal this and other election outcomes.
Operatives aligned with Alaska Democratic Senate nominee Mary Peltola spent months recruiting candidates to peel votes from her Republican rival. The group worked to coax would-be spoilers into the race to dilute the incumbent's support and help catapult Peltola to victory. trib.al/gWKhuWh

I know you're joking but we're 1.5 days away from someone publishing this in earnest in the Atlantic or something.

Leaving out the 'elite universities' thing, I wonder if Adam Szetela thinks that these numbers 'prove' that women in publishing do not wish to publish men *specifically because* they are men

and if this is because if HE were in publishing, he wouldn't publish women

because they are women

lolsob wtf are we doing, publishing???
For @wired.com, I spoke with Macmillan and PRH staff about AI at the rest of the Big Five.

I also spoke with bestselling authors who've gone to "war" with publishers over AI use and are now demanding disclosures and threatening to leave their publishers altogether. www.wired.com/story/macmil...
Macmillan Staff Say the Publisher Threw a Party for a Workplace AI Assistant That Was Later Killed
Workers tell WIRED that NOA—or “No Ordinary Assistant”—was unhelpful. Bestselling authors also say AI is ruining their relationships with Big Five publishers.

I think it’s still worth publishing theory papers 😢
Question for my scientist followers: what should a theory paper look like in the age of AI? Theory is so cheap now. Is it even worth publishing theory papers anymore? There are approximately a million theory questions I've had on my back burner for years that I now have answers to because of AI...

WTF was the NYT thinking publishing this? The report is highly questionable when the main source has an axe to grind.

Seems like a great time to mention that publishing with small presses can be a pleasant and rewarding experience

Publishing a campaign slopsite with unprotected voter data feels incredibly on brand for George Cardenas.
Chicago mayoral candidate George Cardenas accidentally made publicly available the home addresses, birth years & voting histories of more than 1.5M Chicago voters as part of his campaign website, large portions of which appear to have been generated by AI, @illinoisanswers.bsky.social reports
Mayoral Candidate’s Website Exposed Voting History of 1.5 Million Chicago Residents
Longtime Chicago politician George Cardenas’ campaign website, apparently written with heavy AI use, left citywide voter roll data exposed.

I think publishing vulns before the patch is out because you got into an argument with a maintainer is evil
i think vagueposting about vulns because you got into an argument with a maintainer is poor posture
huh? software that is open source has always had channels for submitting information about security issues. PHP is open source and…people collaborated with them on the disclosures. you’re under no obligation to do work for them, but not even emailing them to explain your findings is not it.

i can tell this absolute chud why trad publishing employs mostly women. It’s because publishing jobs are underpaid and rely on the goodwill of staff doing 3x the amount of labour they’re actually paid for.
