Punk reggae vibe continuing for me with Alternative TV’s ‘Life After Life’. Nice dub version on the B side.
Jools Holland features on piano too.

One of the things that’s great about the lyrics to The Clash’s ‘White Man In Hammersmith Palais’ is having a listen to the five artists name checked in it.
‘Midnight to six, man, for the first time from Jamaica.. 🧵

Brilliant band and superb album
🎯👌🔥

Here’s my original vinyl copy of it bought on this day in 1979.

The version of ‘Jah War’ on this is especially 🔥👌

The barometer dial has fallen a lot today. A pressure drop!

Fantastic cover version of the great Toots & the Maytals song.

Cracking cover of the great Jimmy Cliff’s brilliant song ‘The Harder They Come’.

What a superb band Joe Strummer had with the Mescaleros.

The Ruts 3rd & 4th single releases from 1979; ‘Something That I Said’ and ‘Jah War’. Top tunes with cracking B sides too!
I saw The Ruts play at Newcastle Mayfair in 1979 and they were superb ✊

Amazing how uplifted you feel after listening to a bit of Toots & The Maytals 😊👌

I’ve also been listening to a couple of cracking cover versions of Toots songs by The Clash and The Specials.

A brilliant song with powerful lyrics✊

The Clash’s version of it is one of my all time favourite cover versions.

Here’s a cracking performance of it from The Concerts for the People of Kampuchea that took place at Hammersmith Odeon in 1979 🎯👌🔥

In 1978 on ‘White Man In Hammersmith Palais’ The Clash foresaw days like today.

In 2025 a change words to “If Mango Mussolini flew in today, they’d send a state carriage anyway” would be spot on! 🤬

A great performance of ‘Hate & War’ by The Clash and a rarely seen cover by them of Desmond Dekker’s ‘The Israelites’.
Recorded for ‘Alright Now’ at Tyne Tees Studios, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1979..

#1001Albums 583 Anita Baker — Rapture (1986)

Interesting and canny B side song ‘Rockers Galore… UK Tour’.

A reworking of Bankrobber with different lyrics and sung by Mikey Dread.

On this day in 1978 The Police released 'Roxanne' as a single in the UK. It’s often mistaken for a love song; in reality it’s a direct, street-level plea set to punk-meets-reggae rhythms. #Roxanne #ThePolice #OutlandosDAmour #70sPostPunk #PunkReggae #VinylHunters #MusicHistory #ProductionNotes
