I was once told knitting is a useful model for looping the purificator across your fingers? (Don't knit so can't tell if it's helpful.)
If you release the chalice to whoever's drinking it makes it easier to shuffle the purificator on a bit.
Hope it went well 💫.

I’m vaguely tempted to run over to the church to practice with a real chalice and purificator. I’m not sure I’ve ever held them? Seems like a bit of an oversight now.

Have I ever mentioned how much I loathe being less than properly & fully prepared for taking on a new task?

I have never made sure to use a fresh part of the purificator. When I was taught, we just used the same cloth. Maybe it moved a bit.
Do you have we intinction? If so, that eases the concern.
Turning the chalice 25% of the way is standard, I think.
Good luck.❤️

I never had a practice session, but I think that a linen cloth and a metal cup would help, and someone to demonstrate how to fold the purificator with the index and middle finger.
After 60 years, it seems so natural.

Thank you! We do not allow intinction.

The first time I tried to become an EM, I got so mixed up and flustered during the training, at my ineptness to physically do the recommended “proper purificator technique” that I backed out! This time the training didn’t cover that part at all, lol.

Oh, and you need to turn the purificator after each wipe.

I recall the struggle of getting the campus ministry kids to learn the word "purificator" instead of "napkin".

In that way it's like terms like Corporal, purificator, lavabo towel etc - useful for servers to know because they are likely to need to refer the different bits of linen at the altar, others might know them but lots of faithful followers can have no idea about the differences!

I do love the " is this a purificator, lavabo towel or corporal?" Game while ironing. If the linen is sensible they are three different shapes (broad rectangle, narrow rectangle or square) but often it is more complicated. This time I do know how many of each I should have...

That would be weird. Use of white wine happens, partly for practical reason of being easier to wash out of the purificator. But also from opposite ends of theological spectrum. It becomes Jesus' blood so it doesn't need to look like blood or it definitely doesn't become his blood, see it's not red

The Christmas Crib service has happened. The baby Jesus was carried reverently to the manger by a child, the swaddling bands (purificator) were converted into a bedspread, and the hay was given to the donkey. An unknown member of the congregation kindly supplied camel noises. Christmas begins.
