I’ve been fitting my new gravel bike with the older road wheels and changed the freehub from SRAM to Microspline. As the group set is GRW with a mighty 10-51 cassette.The rear wheel wouldn’t fit so Ive been on a lengthy support chat with Hunt looking at the push2 fit axle adaptors. 1/2.

Thanks, indeed, PUSH2/POP2 is not a good example of reducing code size.

To use GPR16-31, the REX2 prefix, which is 1 byte longer, is enough. MOV and LEA, for example, do not even have an EVEX version.

Thanks ☺️ The other day, you mentioned that I should be able to go from Push 2 >> MIDI over USB >> SQ1. Presumably I'd need a USB cable with the 'square' connectors at both ends? Otherwise I don't see how they connect together? (unless via the computer?)

使っていないノートPCスタンドと、近所のホームセンターで買ったこれまた使っていない板で2段仕立てにしてみた。
ちと圧迫感あるけど、Pushを正面に持って来れたので良いのではないかと思う。
これで使う頻度を上げてみようね。

From a critical standpoint, then, Johnson’s “Biblical case” functions as a form of propaganda or apologetics for a predetermined agenda, raising justified scepticism about its intellectual honesty. If theological claims are marshalled chiefly to sanctify a policy and discredit opponents (who are labelled “unfaithful” or radical), the rhetoric veers away from good-faith inquiry and toward manipulative persuasion. As we turn to theological analysis, this context will remain important: the integrity of Johnson’s biblical argument cannot be separated from the polemical way he frames and delivers it. Theological Merit of Johnson's Claims Core Claim: Individual Compassion vs. Governmental “Sword” Johnson’s central theological claim is that Scripture draws a sharp distinction between the moral duties of individual believers and those of civil government. He argues that while “a central premise of Judeo-Christian teaching” is kindness to strangers, “the principle and commandment to love…was never directed to the government, but to individual believers”1. In his view, biblical commands like “love thy neighbour” bind personal conduct, whereas government officials are instead bound by passages such as Romans 13:1-4 to “bear the sword” in enforcing laws and punishing wrongdoers4. Thus, Johnson contends, when “government officials ignore crime” (e.g. illegal border crossings), “they are directly violating their responsibilities before God”1. He concludes that “securing our borders” and deporting lawbreakers are not merely policy preferences but “responsibilities fully authorized by the Bible — and expected of us by God”2. In this paradigm, “maintaining a secure border is not an offensive measure, but a wise, defensive one to prevent chaos and safeguard innocent life”2. The theological thrust is clear: God Himself, via Scripture, ordains nations to have borders and demands civil authorities enforce them for the sake of order and justice. Scriptural Supports and Institutional Echoes The soundness of these claims is highly debatable when weighed against broader biblical scholarship and Judeo-Christian tradition. On one hand, Johnson’s reasoning does draw on a stream of Christian thought that emphasizes order and authority. Romans 13, which he alludes to, indeed says governing authorities are instituted by God to reward good and restrain evil. The Old Testament, too, portrays Israel as a nation with defined borders and laws. Johnson’s argument echoes some conservative theologians who cite passages like Acts 17:26 (God determined the boundaries of nations) and Nehemiah’s rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls as evidence that borders and national sovereignty are part of God’s design4. In fact, the white paper “The Biblical Case for Border Security and the Rule of Law” from Liberty University’s Standing for Freedom Center makes the same points almost verbatim: that “Scripture clearly establishes that nations with defined borders are part of God’s design”, that Nehemiah’s walls were a godly act done “out of love for those within”, and that Romans 13 gives government a mandate to punish lawbreakers —so failing to enforce immigration law “is not compassion— it is a violation of Biblical justice”4. Johnson’s theology aligns with this interpretation, asserting that “ignoring illegal immigration” would invert God’s moral order by letting evil go unpunished4. Challenge to the Dichotomy: Communal Ethics and Humane Statecraft However, while this perspective has adherents, it represents a selective reading of scripture that many biblical scholars and faith leaders contest. A primary critique is that Johnson’s dichotomy between individual and governmental ethics finds little explicit support in the Bible itself. The commands to care for the stranger, the widow, and the orphan in the Hebrew Bible were given to the people of Israel as a whole — a society governed first by judges and later kings under God’s law. There was no secular “state” separate from the community in the ancient context; thus, to argue that biblical injunctions of compassion apply only to private individuals and not leaders or laws is an extrapolation that many theologians find unwarranted. Notably, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, drawing on a long Judeo-Christian tradition of social ethics, has explicitly rejected the idea that mercy and justice can be so divided. In a 2025 statement, the Catholic bishops condemned “indiscriminate mass deportation of people” and “dehumanizing rhetoric” toward immigrants2. They prayed for an end to such approaches, implicitly affirming that a just nation should temper enforcement with compassion for human dignity2. Pope Leo XIV (echoing Pope Francis’ real-world teachings) likewise emphasized, “We have to look for ways of treating people humanely, treating people with the dignity that they have. If people are in the United States illegally, there are ways to treat that. There are courts, there’s a system of justice”2. This viewpoint does not call for erasing borders or nullifying law; rather, it insists that enforcement be coupled with humane treatment and due process. Johnson’s theology, by contrast, gives an almost unqualified moral warrant to the state’s use of force (“the sword”) in the name of order, with little indication of the limits and demands that biblical justice places on that force. Holistic Readings: Mercy, Justice, and the “Least of These” Critics argue that Johnson’s scriptural case is theologically shallow because it lifts up certain proof-texts (e.g. Romans 13, Acts 17:26) while downplaying the weightier themes of mercy, hospitality, and justice for the vulnerable that pervade Judeo-Christian scripture. Rev. Liz Theoharis, a theologian and anti-poverty activist, points out that even Romans 13 —often cited to sanction government authority— comes immediately after Paul’s command to believers “to associate with the lowly” and to “overcome evil with good” (Romans 12)5. Paul’s teaching on authorities, properly understood, “is commenting not just on raw power, but on the responsibility governing authorities have to ensure the well-being of everyone in society, including the poor and marginalized”5. In other words, the biblical vision of government is not value-neutral law enforcement; it is meant to be an instrument of justice for the common good. A government that meets out harshness to the “least of these” while protecting the strong would be failing that divine mandate, not upholding it. Thus, if immigration enforcement inflicts cruelty or targets the vulnerable (families, asylum-seekers, children), one could argue —as many Christian leaders have— that it violates the higher “law of love” which is, in Paul’s words, “the fulfilment of the law” (Romans 13:10). Indeed, during the Trump administration’s family separation policy, numerous faith voices objected that citing Romans 13 to justify such cruelty was a distortion of the Gospel. For example, Rep. Ted Lieu pointed to Matthew 25:35 (“I was a stranger and you welcomed me”) and stated “Nothing in the Bible says to separate kids from parents. It's easy to like #Intel #APX, but it has some oddities and asymmetries, e.g. it doesn't have PUSH/POP r16(..r31).
We need the new PUSH2/POP2 instructions for these new registers, but they only work if the RSP is 16-byte aligned...
