The death penalty is a wrong that can't be made right. We are now seeing or hearing of its horrors. Usually we shield ourselves from them. Tonight, I pray for Christa Pike that she be spared any further violence inflicted in our name
The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Yes, most individual diagrams diverge. A rough rule of thumb is that any diagram with loops in it will diverge.

This is why QFT is difficult and mysterious!

The solution is called renormalization.

Ok I see what you are saying. Yeah, classical EM waves linked to classical GWs, but somehow there wouldn’t be a spin 2 graviton here for GWs. GR is not based on QFT, it’s classical all the way around.
September 30, 2026 at 4:03 PM
Yes, I see what you are saying but isn’t connecting GWs with EM waves essentially saying GWs must then have a tensor spin 2 massless boson quanta particle, which makes the tensor gravitational field into a QFT? 1/

If it's the same Schwartz, he does have a decent QFT book to be fair, but it does seem a long way from what he usually works on!

On the other hand, one can argue that if AI gets more people interested in gnarly aspects of perturbative QFT, that's a good thing. Here in Edinburgh we have an "amplitudes community" who works on this stuff. I like the mysterious connections to number theory.

QFT
the ideal form of commercial gamedev is a fidget spinner that is also a slot machine

it's not about communicating anything, it's about self-soothing. this is the rosetta stone to understanding like half a dozen different recurring game design discourses and the design trends that kick them off
I find it funny when people talk about how games are this art form that can make you feel emotions, but then you bring up something like wanting more games to have timers & people will say its bad design "because it makes me anxious"

So emotions only allowed through story, not gameplay. Got it lol.

I am watching Billy Liar at the QFT with @cjdonnelly72.bsky.social soon. My first time viewing the film! Looking forward to it

i'm not sure that's true. at least the medium cannot be posited saliently except through the various moments of change that constitute it. like the "universal fluid medium" of Hegel or the particle fields of QFT physics

Omg! The QFT class for once went over things I’m familiar with from SFT! Wicks theorem and propagators that are Greens functions etc. it’s weird though because Feynman propagators are not causal, Ive only seen causal propagators.

tbh for me QFT always felt the most satisfying mathematically to me compared to everything you do before. and having also done lectures on functional analyses etc, the notations physicists use are often much more beautiful to me (not just einstein notations but also eg weyl spinor notations)

i feel like i paid my dues turning in QFT homework, and I'm salty cause I still don't get it
September 27, 2026 at 12:29 AM
QFT is just a lot of fucking work before you build up the muscle memory for it; pretty common for mathematicians types to get salty that they can't jump right to the beautiful algebraic structures
September 27, 2026 at 12:14 AM
It was probably because they like pure math better. I would have shown my measure theory/probability theory stuff but honest to god the QFT class pset took me 10x more effort!

Tonights trip to QFT. I think it’s fair to say that if Saoirse Ronan wasn’t in this it would disappear beneath the waves & never be spoke of again. Ronan’s performance is the best thing in it, a ridiculous, plodding film that gets more implausible as it goes. Oh well, nothing ventured etc #FilmSky

Bowl o’ pasta and now cinema😎

Agreed. Yes, it’s always rinse & repeat with these classic novels isn’t it🙄. Back at QFT tonight to see Bad Apples, about a frazzled schoolteacher, it’s not enough that I live with one…🤣🤣🤣

QFT again last night to to see Sense & Sensibility. Overall a solid, decent movie & quite enjoyable. Not sure it’ll go down as one of the great literary adaptations. Fiona Shaw is superb & brings a fizzing energy to all her scenes. A solid 3/5 for me. #FilmSky

I spent a lot of money on books I know most of the content of, but have never read. Four books I feel I should try to read before I die:

-- Functional Analysis; Rudins
-- Physical Chemistry; Engel
-- Quantum Mechanics; wan
-- QFT; Ryder
