I'm revamping my materials for the quadratics unit, including my tutorial on completing the square. I've always struggled with how to explain it without making it confusing, and I think this visual will help nicely. It uses the same mechanic as my "camera moves" animation

By no means an original idea, but here's my attempt at a quadratics completion table.
When doing this in lesson, I gave out fully blank grids, and did one row at a time together as a class, giving a different starting box each time. It worked pretty well.

By no means an original idea, but here's my attempt at a quadratics completion table.
When doing this in lesson, I gave out fully blank grids, and did one row at a time together as a class, giving a different starting box each time. It worked pretty well.

In #mathstoday #Alevelmaths yr 1 did hidden quadratics and filled in the blanks with this resource from Swinton maths, yr 2 found intersections of modulus graphs mostly adapting examples taken from the dr frost slides - my new A3 MWBs, fine tip pens and board rubbers got lots of use 😀

In #MathsToday we were factorising non-monic quadratics.
Using the grid for splitting the middle term worked so much better than factorising the left and right sides.
I don't think I've ever had such a high success rate on this skill.
