Physically pains me when people write ""syllogisms"" with premises that do not begin with one of the appropriate quantifiers. Get thee behind me stoic.

Today's self-editing tip: look for the quantifiers and weak words you're using to prop up sentences: suddenly, after all, somehow, just, very.

You don't need to delete them all, but see if your sentence would have more impact without them.

Somehow, though. Somehow you can pretty much always kill.

In better news a brilliant undergrad student working with me is making progress on a cool experiment with quantifiers sooooo 🤓

Funny enough, it's also about quantifiers (any / not one)

AV is despicable. He's bending the words and the truth. So much for his intellectual honesty and the good faith he shouldn't be credited with.

Next semester I'm teaching a course on Intuitionistic Logic. I'll be covering natural deduction, normalization, Hilbert systems, Kripke models, Heyting algebras, alternative connectives, quantifiers, and a little constructive maths. I'm looking forward to really digging into that material.

New paper led by Vini Macuch-Silva: "Strategic use of English quantifiers in the reporting of quantitative information".

In our experiments, participants used the approximate nature of quantifiers strategically to make exam results appear as good/bad as possible:

#MathsToday Leaving my future self some big "NOT THAT WAY" notes about how I introduced and & or in Discrete today, but we ended up at some good conversations about equivalent propositions anyway. And solid first steps into quantifiers (using materials from @thewordninjabk.bsky.social)

Here is a not too recent paper on this …
QUANTIFIERS AND FOCUS
Abstract. This paper concerns a neglected but potentially important aspect of natural language quantifiers. Certain quantifiers serve to identify various p

this needs mathematical quantifiers
X = user
Y = topic
Q(X,Y) = X will get into it with Stancil about Y

∀X∃Y Q(X,Y)?

Quantifier-Specific Usage Patterns Shape Learning—A Corpus Analysis on Universal Quantifiers in English and Dutch Child-Directed Language - Mieke Sarah Slim, Elizabeth Tobyn, Caroline F. Rowland, 2026
Quantifiers specify semantic relations between sentence constituents. Due to their meanings, they form a learning challenge for children. This challenge is made...

That's a statement that needs a lot of quantifiers to really mean anything :)

Observed a mother and child pair of quantifiers in the wild. By the summer, the child will leave its mother and begin binding its own variables.

"Coordination" being one of those tasks whose value is hard to quantify, especially in the absence of an emergency, and therefore a target for cuts by aggressive quantifiers.
