#querystatus I've signed another new client. Super excited to rep a fellow Canuck! 🇨🇦 Which means I reached my two goals this open season: signing a graphic novelist, and signing a Canadian. That also means my roster is just about buttoned up and I'll be even more selective with the queries left.

#querystatus: I'm reading queries sent in early August, so I'll be closing my query inbox tomorrow and spending December catching up. I signed one new client this week, which brings me to a grand total of 9 clients. Ideally, I'd have 10 clients (12 max), so I'm being extremely selective right now.

Multiple people have:
1. Queried me while a query is still open with one of my TRF colleagues
2. Sent 3-4-5 queries to me for 3-4-5 different manuscripts

I'd rather not reject outright, so if this is you, now's a perfect time to withdraw one or more queries in QM to fix these issues. #querystatus

#querystatus: I made a couple of requests and rejected ~ a dozen queries today. I can't emphasize enough the importance of a clear, concise query. Your query letter is how I decide to read your sample. Make it clear what you're submitting and what/who it's about so I can make an informed decision.

#querystatus: 18 queries on the first day. Not bad! None are labeled as graphic novels, so I guess that means my inbox is full of Canadians!! 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁
#querystatus: I just reopened to queries! I'm looking for a graphic novelist as well as Canadian creators. Visit my Query Manager page here: querytracker.net/query/jestru...

I've received so far 25 queries during my graphic novel open period, and 15 (60%) were either:
🚫 a GN
🚫 an author-illustrated GN
🚫 a GN intended for the kid's/teen market

These three requirements were all clearly stated on my submission page. Plz plz plz read carefully! #querystatus #amagenting

A disproportionately high number of people sent me "graphic novel" queries for projects that simply did not meet the submission guidelines. Some were not GNs at all, others were not author/illustrated. Please make sure you always read and follow submission guidelines. #querystatus

I added a little extra information at the top of my QM form to make queriers lives even easier.

I'm looking at GN submissions. A reminder that the part that comes after "in particular" is the personalized part of your query response. If there's no "in particular" section, it's because the form part of the response encapsulates what you need to know about why I rejected your query. #querystatus

#querystatus: I took time off from sm this summer in part to catch on outstanding queries. I'm happy to say I've responded to all queries, and have just 8 subs left to decide on (3 in QM/5 via email). I don't know yet if I will reopen to queries, but at least I'm making progress!

#querystatus: And just like that, I've reached sub zero...submission inbox zero that is. On to the 300 unread queries in my inbox. Love these nice round numbers!

#querystatus: That was fast, all. I'm going to have to close my query inbox. Thank you so much for your interest and trusting me with your work. I will get back to everyone as quickly as I can!

I've updated my QM page. I'm still closed to queries, but I've included details on what I'll be looking for so that you can prepare in advance (if you're the preparing type). #querystatus #mswl querymanager.com/jestrudel

And just like that, I've reached query inbox ZERO! #querystatus. I've responded to every query I've received, most of them personalized. I still have requested submissions to read through before I reopen in (hopefully) a couple of weeks. I learned a lot my first time out:

Down to 50 queries! #querystatus I only requested 3/50 today, half my usual request rate, which shows how selective I'm being. I've noticed a lot of CB pitches that don't adhere to category expectations (wordcount, pacing, hooks, etc.). I may need to write a thread on CBs.

100 LEFT! #querystatus Digging deep on queries again this weekend. My list is starting to get full, so I'll be especially picky. I'm sorry in advance to everyone that'll be disappointed. I will continue to provide personalized responses as much as possible. #amagenting #askagent
