#quoots
I resent bots that don't allow quoots.

@955_36 @gottalaff.bsky.social This looks like it's some change in the gateway behaviour, maybe? Changing post transfers so they show up as quoots instead of basic web links (which is strictly speaking more correct), but since Bluesky doesn't know anything about quote-permission, it […]

Given that they've been around for a while now, what's the general verdict on quoots?

My timeline has been clean of people who deal in snarky remarks or cheap dunks for a while now, so my experience is heavily skewed. 😅

What about "quoots"?

Ok, yeah, the web UI only shows one layer of nesting. Pity, I want to see an infinitely shrinking chain of quoots down to infinity,.

I wonder if there's a tweak I can make in the code to do that, without heavy lifting...

Quoots!

(Tho the Toot! test version just no-op'd when I hit the quoot button. Hm.)

(also, interesting, the quooted quooted toot isn't showing up for me)

Quoots in a client that doesn’t support them look exactly as bad as bsky boosts do via the bridge. Totally annoying and useless.

Guess I’ll see if I can still get in on my client’s TestFlight.

@moira gah, Quoot, Quoots, Quooted. Fucking English, man.

‘quoots uit Duks eigen podcast’
Dus juist alleen maar leugens.

I can't quote-toot yet, but what I've gleaned from this thread for new #mastodon lingo:
https://kind.social/@Fruan/115219774480090854

* Posts - Toots (you'll never take this from us!)

* Quote toots - Quoots

* Boost toots - Boots, or Boops if you prefer.

* Bookmark - Tuskmark

Now that quote posts are a thing on Mastodon, we need an insufferably cutesy nickname for them that everyone hates but still gets used anyway. To that end I nominate “Quoots”, a portmanteau of ‘quote’ and ‘toot’. I believe it’s the worst possible option, solidly cementing Mastodon in particular and the Fediverse in general as having the worst slang on the internet. Please quoot to spread the word.

Hereby starting my campaign to designate #QuoteToots as "Quoots".
November 6, 2025 at 7:03 PM
Phanpy doesn't support quoots yet, so I'm using Mastodon's stock web interface and.. it's bad. Compare how busy it looks with unnecessary stuff (do I really need a "post" input form on screen at all times? Do I need a link to "favorites" visible at all […]

HEY LOCALS

4.5.0 is up and running!

Here's a writeup of all the user changes. It includes quote toots (quoots).

IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE QUOTED YOU CAN DISABLE IT COMPLETELY IN PREFERENCES, so if that's what you want and you […]

HEY LOCALS: About to roll in a very minor Mastodon upgrade (4.4.5) which adds searching on quoots and fixes a couple of bugs.

As usual, you might get some Bad Gateway, refresh your view if you do.

I know more people are moving to 4.5, but those are not stable releases yet, and I don't do the […]

THIS is why I want Quoots. We could do a whole chain of these.

Time to go stalk Tusky's GitHub repo to see if/when they're implementing Quoots.
November 6, 2025 at 10:29 PM
@dalias I'll start using quotes more or less as soon as my two main clients, Tusky and mastodon.el, start supporting them. It's not stubbornness on my part holding me back, and I agree with your point about actual quoots having rich permissions support that make them the obviously better way.
