17 new radiocarbon dates place the Las Minillas copper mine in Spain in the Late Bronze Age. Whether its copper reached Scandinavia is less certain: 11 of 300+ Scandinavian bronzes are consistent with its ores. #BronzeAge #Archaeology #Iberia www.anthropology.net/p/las-minill...
Las Minillas Copper Mine: 17 Dates, 11 Nordic Bronzes
New radiocarbon dates place Iberian copper mining in the Late Bronze Age, but the evidence linking it to Scandinavian bronzes is thinner than it looks.

When Wayland's Smithy was excavated and restored in 1962-63 the finds were deposited here at Reading Museum, including the bones of 11 men, two women and a child. Recent radiocarbon dating shows the barrow's first phase was in use for no more than 15 years.

⌛ Roman coffin holds the remains of a medieval abbot
A Roman sarcophagus at England's Westminster Abbey turns out to contain the skeleton of a medieval man. Radiocarbon dating now places his death fairly precisely between 990 and 1050. Researchers suspect the remains belong to Abbot Ælfwig or possibly his successor, Wulfnoth. However, the man's exact...

Same here. Small fix on our end though: the Lendbreen tunic radiocarbon dates to roughly AD 230-390, so it's Late Roman Iron Age, not Viking. Even older than our post made it sound. We're checking the wording.

The Greenland shark is one of the longest-living vertebrates on Earth and may live more than 400 years, according to estimates. Some may have been born in the 17th century. Their age is calculated with radiocarbon dating of eye proteins, but the exact age remains uncertain.

It appears that in the Swiss Alps, they’ve found an Iron Age ski ⛷️ radiocarbon dated to 499-400 BCE. Quite exciting—tho probably not for the skier. Also a reminder that this is a cool find but the climate change causing huge reductions in glacier ice is absolutely of much greater concern. 🎁 link

Ochman outlines dating approaches (radiocarbon, OSL) and cautions on excavation of potential sacred sites
Ochman explained why stone cannot be radiocarbon-dated directly, described cases where carbon beneath structures yielded pre-contact dates, and discussed optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) as promising but invasive and requiring indigenous consent.

Overall, human and dog diets appear similar across the study subregions, which matters for interpreting their radiocarbon dates and comparing them with those from the region's human remains, both of which likely carry a freshwater old-carbon bias.

On Peru's northern coast, a mummified dog lay in a shallow pit at Castillo de Huarmey.

It was hairless, and radiocarbon dating shows it is at least 1,200 years old, from the Wari Empire.
