out of every resource i've read, the pbrt book remains the most accessible, non-handwavy, and concise primer in radiometry. you don't even have to read the entire book, just the radiometry chapter.

You cannot get physically-based rendering right without understanding radiometry. My new blog post explains it all, relying on familiar concepts from rendering algorithms as much as possible.
Part 2 will come next week.

My new blog post explains spectral radiometric quantities, photometry and basics of spectral rendering. This is part 2/2 in a series on radiometry. Learn what it means when a light bulb has 800 lumen and how your renderer can account for that.

I love papers that combine radiometry and owls.

🦉 Owls are Camouflaged by Moonlight 🌙

A new study has found that barn owls' white feathers help them blend into moonlit skies, making them nearly invisible to prey like rodents.

This unique nocturnal camouflage boosts their hunting success.

eg microwave radiometry. idk if anyone has done it with BT but i think you could probably find a way to do it with some error bars

Satellite Microwave Radiometry at L-Band for Monitoring Earth’s Essential Climate Variables: From Fundamental Physics to Sixteen Years of Global Climate Observations and Beyond
L-band satellite radiometry has emerged as an important tool for monitoring Earth’s essential climate variables (ECVs). It relies on spaceborne radiometers operating in a protected band (1.4–1.427 GHz...

trying to fix radiometry on my radio telescope, and i think its readings have temperature dependence. this seems to confirm that

anyway who’s up correlating their variables

It's got lots of great stuff with two big chapters covering mathematics (including Grassmann / geometric algebra) and another chapter covering things like radiometry, reflectance models, scattering, and ray tracing. There's substantial overlap between this field and computer graphics.

Whilst it's true to say weather is complex & chaotic & therefore impossible to predict with absolute certainty they have the technology (microwave radiometry amongst other methods) to accurately measure the liquid water content of clouds. The fact that this information wasn't relayed is suspicious
