正直、DVDやBDなどへのデータ保管はお勧めできない。
経時劣化で読めなくなるし、光学ドライブが無くなったら終わりだ。

Back in '97 we lost a RAID5 because vendor that built the array didn't know about mixing drives from different production runs.

i set up raid5 so one of my hard drives can fail without breaking everything :)

This is what I'm uplifting for homelab. Thirteen 3.5" bays, currently 2TB and 3TB RAIDs with SATA SSDs. 4x 12TB on order for RAID5 bulk. Need to replace dual Xeon from ~2010 with something DDR4 that can do 2x+ M.2. Low idle wattage. Proxmox(?) with 3090 PCIe passthru for AI jobs.

OpenMediaVault is up and running on the obsolete Seagate NAS. It's a bit slow because of the single-core 32bit 12 year old Arm processor but that's not an issue. There is a larger issue though.
Most RAID5+ capable NAS devices install the OS on the RAID Volume. OMV reserves a drive for itself. /1

Y encima que no lo tengo en RAID5, es el disco duro de la copia de seguridad total. Tendré que borrar el otro disco duro (del que tengo copia en USB), trasvasar todo lo de éste al otro y recuperar desde el respaldo...

Pi 5 8GBはHDD*5でRAID5組んでNASにしてるので、メモリはキャッシュとして有効活用されてる

My raid5 media storage setup is inching closer to full, and while I wasn't looking forward to setting up an expansion even when things were "normal" it's even more daunting now.

apparently the internet just lies and ugos doesn't let you migrate raid5 -> raid6 when you add a drive so i guess i'm rebuilding it all again 🤪 i will attempt 3 drives in raid1 to 4 drives in raid6 i guess

Snaszy NAS project continues - printing a tray to check for fit and tolerances. I've also got BTRFS working great on the Raspberry Pi with 3 drives. Adding drives and going from a single drive, to a mirror, to a 3 drive raid5 configuration is so simple. Write-up coming this weekend.
