Mr Bates Vs The Post Office.

Semi-final. Winner goes on to meet either Railtrack or Mrs Gilchrist in the final.

The attached map shows the rail network of Russia and the Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine. Due to their length it is not feasible for Russians to protect them. In many cases it is enough to cut a railtrack just at one point to render a connection between two far-reaching cities inoperable.

"Burnham’s allies point to Thames Water, grappling with a near £20 billion in debt, as a potential Railtrack moment for the sector."

YES.

Railtrack was brought into public ownership through special administration.

If done by UKGov, the project would get talked about for 5 years, the consultation would cost £20B then we'd end up with with a single 1 mile segment of solar panels being installed on the railtrack paid for by the taxpayer with all electricity profits privatised.

Public ownership of England’s water companies could cost close to zero.

Companies have violated their licences. Shares worthless. Debt low value.

Railtrack, Northern Rock were taken over without compensation for investors.

Can do the same for water companies? But govt obsessed with privatisation.

UK Minister says govt stepping up preparations for temporary nationalisation of Thames Water.

Must not be temporary, no return to private sector.

Water companies have stolen plenty, dumped sewage, unplugged leaks.

No compensation, as was the case with Railtrack and Northern Rock.

(I jest, but that was broadly the Railtrack approach to rail maintenance pre-Hatfield. Without Jeremy’s ratings.)

No doubt if they went for a WCML Modernisation Programme - so efficient it collapsed Railtrack - you would complain about the cost and disruption.

Not sure I had appreciated the Railtrack had a livery of its own—orange and grey it seems
In addition Class 121 Bubble Cars, 977723 (960021) in Railtrack Orange and Grey livery, and 977866 (960013) in Network Southeast livery, these sandite units previously numbered 55021 (L121) and 55030 (L130).

Both units now scrapped.

It's the most expensive railtrack on Planet Earth.

Where the f*ck did all the money go?

In a bizarre way, this reminds me of an ex’s dad, who bought lots of Railtrack shares in 2000 on the basis that ‘the country will always need railways’.
this is, in a very real sense, the most correct post of all time, insofar as it captures the full essence of Officially Sanctioned Reality

“Once this was done, shareholders & secured creditors such as bondholders would be given “appropriate value” for their stakes”

McGaughey says this would be nothing.

Will bondholders sue? Sure. As they did (unsuccessfully) when Railtrack & Northern Rock were put into special administration
