The best post-Beatles album. Contemporary critics (such as the nearly always wrong Robert Christgau) were completely wrong about it - it's utterly joyful.

Not convinced? Don't care - it's my favourite, so there.

How come I never knew until today of the existence of this live album from 2018 of the Earl's Court concert on 1 July 1978? WHICH I WAS AT!!!!

Next year it will become a multi-media arena event.🤔🤪

In spite of believing that Genesis suffered after the departure of Steve Hackett, I still quite liked the first album from the trio... but how much better could it have been with Steve's input? Guess we'll never know.

I doubt that many other youngsters, by their 12th birthday, owned all 6 (by late '73) Alice Cooper albums! This is, of course, 'Pretties for You' and 'Easy Action' reissued. From the days when Alice was still Vince....

I once bought, and sort-of played(!), a bouzouki. That I did so was entirely due to its use by the great Dónal Lunny, who passed away yesterday. I recently played a Bothy Band album, so let's go for Planxty's 2nd.

RIP.

Is it as good as 'The Red Planet'? Probably not, but it's still a damn fine prog showcase - and not just for Grumpy Old Rick! The supporting cast is uniformly excellent.

For me, Miranda is at her best when the production doesn't get in the way of the songs. I fear that is the problem on her new album. Given my antipathy to 'disco', though, I suspect that a 'country disco' album was never for me!

Sad to learn, via the new Mojo, of the death last month of the great Paddy Keenan of The Bothy Band. This is not only a great folk album but one of my very favourite live albums. They kicked ass....

I forgot to include Kacey's latest as a 'random' selection when it was released back in May. Pity; it's bound to appear in my Top 10 list for this year - a really strong album from my favourite modern country performer.

RT has been in a rich vein of form since... well, forever. So it comes as no surprise that his new one is an absolute corker. Already on my fifth play-through since downloading it at 12:05 am. As you do.

Sad to hear of the death of David Surkamp. First bought this when a friend said Bill Bruford was on it (wrong - that's the 2nd album). Many struggled with his Geddy-ish voice, but the songs on this debut are excellent. R.I.P.

Once you've listened to Part One, as sure as night follows day, Part Two will follow.

(And unlike Part One, they played 2 tracks from Part Two last night in Manchester, 'Swan Hunter' and 'East Coast Racer'.)

It's taken a while, but I finally warmed to 'Breakfast' a decade or so ago. Having loved the previous 3 albums, I didn't connect with this as much at the time. Maybe in '79 I was listening to so much other music. Whatever.

It's a masterpiece, one of the greatest albums ever released, but my personal top 3 is 'Court', 'Hissing' and 'Hejira', as those were 'my' albums on release. Whilst I didn't come to 'Blue' until a year or two later, I adore it, obvs.

In the nigh-on 2 years I've been posting (not so) random albums here on Bluesky, there's 2 from Joni's classic run that I've not included - ludicrously. And so....

After hearing the debut from one band featuring dual lead-keyboards, here's the debut from another! I prefer the subsequent 3 from the classic lineup; it's pretty good, but a bit let down by Dave Lawson's strained vocals on 'Feathered Friends'.
