For an actual published pattern that I'm currently writing, I plan on abbreviating a good bit of it, but not every single word. Writing it all out seems tedious, but for example I can hardly understand the ranunculus👇

The rest of the week’s moth-trapping was quite disappointing. Only a handful of migrants and only including common/expected species. But it’s always nice to catch species I don’t see at home, like Radford’s Flame Shoulder, Brindled Ochre, White-speck, Feathered Ranunculus and Feathered Brindle.
Radford’s Flame Shoulder. These are similar to the commoner Flame Shoulder but a few differences include the obviously longer wings. I caught 7 this year having only ever caught one before, but they’ve probably colonised rather than all being migrants? Brindled Ochre, a lovely large moth with an indistinct pattern of fuscous-brown on a sandy background. Although hard to capture on photos these often show a weird greenish or iridescent film at certain angles. I caught these most nights, with 6 on 13th October. I’ve regularly caught them here in the past but haven’t ever seen them away from SW Cornwall (they are common in much of coastal-Britain and in some places inland too, but they don’t occur here in Norfolk). #CornwallMoths White-speck. A distinctive large brown moth showing a bit of orange. There’s a white speck in the discal area and a dark diagonal line near the apex of the wing. I regularly catch these when I’m in the SW (up to 7 a night this time) but I’ve never found one elsewhere. They have occasionally been recorded here in Norfolk. Feathered Ranunculus - a particularly well-marked individual with clear white oval and kidney and bright green and bronze scales. I caught up to 20 a night but most of them weren’t as bright as this one. This species does occur in Norfolk but mainly near the coast or in the Norwich area, and not in mid Norfolk where I’m based, so this is a species I only see when I’m on holiday in the SW. #TeamMoth

The dahlias are done and cosmos nearly so. Time to plant spring bulbs and winter-flowering stock and primrose. Adding wire to slow down squirrels. Can't wait to see what these little plain bulbs become
