Spain declared a national emergency on 23 July as large #wildfires burn simultaneously across the country.
Over 100,000 people evacuated or confined.

Annotated Copernicus satellite image titled "Multiple wildfires prompt national emergency in Spain", dated 26 July 2026. The main Sentinel-3 view shows central and eastern Spain in natural colour, with pale grey smoke plumes streaming south-east from a fire labelled #IFSierraOeste, west of Madrid, and a second plume from #IFVallDUixó near the Mediterranean coast. An inset Sentinel-2 close-up on the left shows the Sierra Oeste fire in detail: bright orange active fire lines along the perimeter, a large dark purple burn scar, and smoke drifting over the villages of Navas del Rey and Pelayos de la Presa. Credit lines read European Union, Copernicus Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3 imagery. Satellite image of a large wildfire in Almería province, Andalusia. A dark brown-black burn scar covers hilly terrain in the centre of the frame, edged by bright orange active fire fronts along its northern and southern flanks. Blue-grey smoke drifts north-east over the burnt area. Green and tan farmland, roads and scattered settlements surround the fire, with a river valley and a major road running along its southern edge.

Aktuell gleich in drei Regionen: Misox, Tessin, Wallis > www.rapidmapping.admin.ch/index_de.html
